Slow weekend ahead of a significant swell event next week

        Friday, 27 August 2021

Fading surf on the weekend but clean on the beaches, with some small, slow swell early next week. A larger mix of swells is due mid-late week with winds from the northern quadrant.

Strong swell from the SE/ESE being generated by the SW flank of the low as it drifts towards the South Island should see plenty of surf in the 5ft range, holding into Sat before easing back.

Good swell ruined by onshore winds tomorrow, cleaner as it eases

Strong S'ly winds and a good new swell tomorrow, cleaner as it eases before going tiny to flat for a period.

Great mix of S and E swells ahead with a few periods of devil wind to deal with

This S swell will combine with the long range E swell showing 3-4ft sets, potentially offering up some A frame beachies if you can crack the code. Friday looks well worth a paddle or two.

The Tasman low finally moves into better position later Thurs into Fri, weakening as it does so. The weekend still looks great though, just smaller due to the declining windspeeds on the SW flank of the low, compared to Monday’s notes.

Plenty more frontal action on the way with large surf. There'll be a couple of limited windows to seek out in between fronts.

A good new S/SW groundswell and further improvement in winds and conditions over the coming days down South. Fun swells for the Mid from Sunday though not the cleanest. More action mid-late next week.

Good swell to end the week as conditions slowly improve

Good swell to end the week as conditions slowly improve

There's a good SW groundswell to end off the week but conditions will take their time to improve, cleanest once the swell is on the way out. Better surf is due mid-late next week.

Friday looks a much better bet. With the low drifting SE towards New Zealand the south and south-west flank of the low aim a fetch of SE/ESE winds back at the North-east coastline of Tasmania.

Good swell but with onshore winds

Good swell but with onshore winds

There are fun windows of waves either side of a larger swell which will be spoilt by onshore winds.
