Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 13th November)

Best Days: Keen surfers tomorrow morning in the South West, Friday and Saturday mornings in the South West, later next week

Recap

Small to tiny surf across the state yesterday and today with strong morning offshores in the South West, best late morning and into the middle of the days ahead of sea breezes.

This week and weekend (Nov 14 - 17)

After a couple of slow days, we've got some new mid-period swell on the way, inconsistent at times, mostly through Friday afternoon and Saturday.

An initial pulse later today, peaking tomorrow was generated by pre-frontal W/NW winds in the southern Indian Ocean and should boost the South West to 3-4ft+, but remain tiny around Mandurah to 1ft+, 1ft in Perth.

Similar sized surf is expected on Friday morning, ahead of a slightly stronger but less consistent W/SW swell later in the day and Saturday morning to 3-5ft in Margs, 1-1.5ft Mandurah.

Winds tomorrow aren't great with a moderate S/SE-SE breeze across the South West, E/SE further north, giving into sea breezes.

Friday and Saturday mornings look better with fresh E/SE-SE winds on the former, E/NE on the later ahead of sea breezes each day.

Sunday looks average with small, easing surf and S/SW-SW winds as a trough moves through.

Longer term the outlook is slow, with another inconsistent mid-period W/SW swell due to arrive Monday and peak Tuesday.

The source of this is a distant and relatively weak polar low, which has formed south-east of South Africa today. Back to back fetches of strong W/SW winds will be generated in our swell window, though size wise we're not expected to see much 4-5ft in the South West, 1-1.5ft in Mandurah and 1ft in Perth Wednesday. Winds look SE to SW but we'll have to confirm this.

Of greater importance are a couple of stronger storms forecast to develop south-west of us next week. These will generate larger swells for later next week and weekend, but more on this in Friday's update.
