Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 27th February)

Best Days: Swell magnets in the South West tomorrow morning, Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, Sunday and Monday mornings

Recap

Clean fun waves across Margs Saturday morning with surf around 4ft, while Perth and Mandurah were a tiny 1-1.5ft.

Sunday was poor with smaller surf and increasing onshore winds.

Today a slight kick in swell has been seen across the South West with cleaner conditions, coming in at an inconsistent 3ft on the sets across the reefs. Further north was tiny.

This week and weekend (Feb 28 – Mar 5)

A slightly better kick in SW swell is expected tomorrow morning, to 3ft to occasionally 4ft across the South West, but still tiny further north.

The best pulse of swell due later tomorrow and Wednesday morning looks a little weaker now, and is only likely to come in around 3-5ft, easing through the day. Perth and Mandurah may see 1-1.5ft sets if we're lucky.

Winds tomorrow morning should be offshore again with a SE'ly across both regions, while Wednesday morning looks best with an E/SE offshore before sea breezes kick in.

From here the swell will ease off into the end of the week with a light morning offshore Thursday morning before S'ly winds kick in Friday.

A low point in swell activity is due Saturday afternoon/evening, and SE-S/SE winds will leave not decent surfing options. Into Sunday though a mix of long-range and medium-range W/SW swell are due, produced by a slow moving but persistent polar frontal progression through the southern Indian Ocean.

A broad but not overly strong fetch of strong to gale-force W/SW winds will be produced through our western swell window, with the long-range and medium-range energy filling in at a similar time on Sunday.

Margs should build to 4-5ft+ during the day Sunday, holding Monday morning before easing off slowly later and further Tuesday. Perth should see inconsistent 1-2ft sets.

Winds look to be from the SE each morning, strengthening from the S/SE into the afternoons, but more on this Wednesday.
