Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 23rd September)

Best Days: Saturday morning Perth, Sunday morning protected spots, Monday morning Perth, Thursday morning Perth

Recap

Terrible conditions yesterday in the South West, while Perth and Mandurah were clean early with a bit of the swell around the later. Today a large stormy SW groundswell was on the build but with gusty onshore SW winds across all coasts.

This weekend and next week (Sep 24 - 30)

Today's large building SW groundswell is expected to peak overnight and ease back through tomorrow from 6-8ft in the South West and 2ft+ in Perth, further down in size through Sunday.

Onshore winds will persist in the South West though with a W/NW tending N/NW breeze while Perth should see a light E/NE'ly, tending onshore into the afternoon.

Sunday is actually looking a touch better with S/SE breezes across most spots, favouring protected breaks before shifting S/SW into the afternoon.

Perth will be small and easing from 1-2ft, with easing 3-5ft sets in the South West.

A new S/SW groundswell for Monday is still on the cards, generated by a strong polar low that's currently south-west of us. A fetch of strong to gale-force SW winds will be projected towards us producing 6ft surf into Monday across the South West and 1-2ft waves in Perth.

Onshore winds will increase from the W/NW though across Margs with another mid-latitude low pushing in across us, while an early E/NE breeze is more than likely around Perth.

This mid-latitude front will generate a secondary reinforcing SW groundswell for Tuesday to 6-8ft into the afternoon across the South West and 2ft+ in Perth. A third front will move in on Tuesday afternoon though, kicking up another SW swell for Wednesday morning to a similar size.

W'ly tending SW winds will create poor conditions across all locations Tuesday, with easing SW breezes Wednesday. As the swell eases Thursday offshores should be seen around Perth, with no let up across the South West.

More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
