Recap

An increase in weak short-range SW swell yesterday to 3-4ft in the South West and a peaky 1ft around Perth with less than ideal S/SE winds.

Later in the day a stronger SW groundswell was seen and this peaked this morning, followed by a secondary stronger pulse this afternoon. Good clean 4-6ft sets were seen through the morning, pulsing a touch further above expectations this afternoon. Perth was a tiny 1-1.5ft this morning but 2ft sets have been seen into this afternoon with a stiff sea breeze.

This week and weekend (Mar 3 - 6)

This afternoon's strong pulse of SW groundswell will ease off steadily from this evening as a result of the mid-latitude front generating it racing off quickly under the country Monday.

Exposed breaks in the South West should ease from 4-5ft, with 1-1.5ft waves around Perth, further from 3-4ft Friday morning around Margs.

Conditions are looking less than ideal though with average S/SE winds, tending S/SW through the day and remaining onshore across the South West Friday while tending back to the S/SE around Perth.

A small pulse of SW groundswell is due over the weekend, from weak polar frontal activity to the south-west of Heard Island.

Only a slight increase to 3-4ft across exposed breaks is due through the afternoon Saturday, easing back Sunday from 3ft or so. Perth shouldn't see much over 0.5-1ft.

Conditions are looking good and favourable with an SE to possibly E/SE offshore Saturday morning, more E/SE Sunday morning.

Next week onwards (Mar 7 onwards)

Into Monday and Tuesday some better SW groundswell energy is due as two stronger polar frontal systems fire up under Heard Island, generating fetches of gale to severe-gale W'ly winds.

The first will be the smallest and least consistent, generated by a more distant and less favourably aligned fetch, arriving later Sunday and peaking Monday morning to 4-5ft, with the secondary pulse due to arrive later in the day and peak Tuesday morning to 5-6ft+.

Perth isn't due to see much size Monday with inconsistent 1ft+ sets, with better 1-2ft waves likely Tuesday morning, but inconsistent.

Conditions are looking great for this swell with an offshore E/SE breeze Monday and E/NE winds Tuesday morning.

Offshore winds should continue as the swell eases Wednesday before swinging more S/SE into the end of the week. We'll have another look at this Friday.
