High cells are now tending to move NE as they enter the Tasman, bringing N’ly episodes which were rare through our triple La Niña but are becoming common as we enter El Niño proper. Small, combination swells and some light wind periods pad out the rest of the week with a more entrenched N’ly episode next week.
Varying winds are due through this period along with some fun swell that will mainly favour the South Coast. The Mid will see more action next week.

The coming period is OK but nothing flash with windows of decent surf across the state.
Slower week and a half ahead of a larger swell late next week.
The high pressure belt is behaving in typical spring fashion- tracking NE as it enters the Tasman with the SE surge dissipating and swells easing from that source. Combined with some swell from a tradewind band feeding into a long trough we’ll see small swells this week, just rideable on low tides. New high pressure moving into the Tasman rebuilds the tradewind fetch late this week with small swells bumping up a notch on the weekend.
Tiny few days with better surf potential later week.
We’ve got a small fetch out of Cook Strait at present from a decaying low pressure system, and small, compact low about to enter the Tasman bringing todays S’ly change and a S swell tomorrow. A stronger front late this week will supply a modest S pulse heading into the weekend.
A new pulse of groundswell is due mid-week along with favourable winds. Early next week will become oversized and onshore.
