Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Monday 9th June)

Best Days: Every day for beginners, Friday late morning onwards with a new swell, Sunday afternoon, Monday morning

Recap

The weekend started off flat but a strong onshore change brought with it an increase in windswell. This held around 2ft into Sunday morning but conditions were poor with a persistent onshore wind.

Today a better S/SW groundswell filled in with sets to 2ft and conditions were much better with an all day offshore wind.

This week (Jun 9 - 13)

Unfortunately there's not too much to get excited about this week. Today's swell is due to back off further tomorrow and into Wednesday but there should be tiny waves for beginners to 1ft most of the week with offshore winds.

Into Friday a better long-range W/SW groundswell is due as a vigorous polar front fires up below WA and towards the Bight, just on the edge of our swell window.

This should produce an inconsistent but fun 1-2ft of swell for Friday, peaking through the afternoon. Winds look favourable and from the N/NW during the morning ahead of E/SE sea breezes, so time your surf accordingly.

This weekend onwards (Jun 14 onwards)

Friday's swell is expected to ease through Saturday but winds will be poor and lingering onshore in the wake of an overnight change Friday.

Into Sunday and Monday a couple of better pulses of SW groundswell are due off a flurry of polar frontal activity. The first system should generate 2-3ft of swell for Sunday afternoon although winds may still be onshore from the morning. There is a chance for winds to swing W/NW through the afternoon though. Monday looks better as a secondary pulse keeps 2ft waves hitting Clifton with W/NW tending W/SW winds.

Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards but we'll review this Wednesday.
