Good swells for the Mid Coast and then lighter winds developing down South.

We currently have a weak, troughy pattern in the Tasman Sea, with continuing instability across the tropics in the wake of an active, monsoon pattern. High pressure is expected to drift south of Tasmania this week, with a typical Summer SE wind pattern becoming established. Remnants of low pressure near New Zealand are offering up minor fetches out of Cook Strait (currently) and near the South Island which will supply a few small pulses of swell this week.

Improving surf tomorrow but cleanest from Wednesday with some fun, slowly easing swell for the exposed beaches.
A couple of clean tiny days in the mix for the desperate and beginners.
The coming outlook isn't ideal but there are a couple of fun sized swells with workable though tricky winds.
Barely rideable surf this weekend and then tiny/flat for most of next week
Into the new week and a fetch near the South Island over the weekend now looks weaker and more constrained than modelled on Wed but should still be capable of generating 2-3ft of surf for Mon, easing during the day. Winds look good with light NW breezes as a weak, troughy pattern hovers off the South Coast.
Generally speaking the leftover E’ly flow in the South Pacific looks weaker and less persistent and thus residual E’ly swell will likely fade in the mix faster than Wed’s notes suggested.
There'll be one window of OK waves for the South Coast this period before winds go back to the S/SE along with some fun W/SW pulses.
