South Australian Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 15th November)

Best Days: South Coast Saturday mid-morning to early afternoon, Sunday middle of the day, Monday morning, Mid Coast Friday and next Saturday

Recap

Cleaner conditions and plenty of swell left in the mix yesterday down South, easing back a touch this morning to 3ft on the sets off Middleton with workable winds. The swell should start kicking again this afternoon but with onshore winds.

The Mid Coast has been clean but tiny.

This weekend and next week (Nov 16 - 22)

There's plenty of swell still on the cards for the weekend, but onshore winds will create less than ideal conditions. The bonus is that they won't be especially strong, and there'll be workable options for keen surfers.

Currently a broad and elongated fetch of strong W/SW winds are drawn out through our southern swell window.

Activity before this should produce an increase in mid-period S/SW swell this afternoon, holding in size tomorrow from the elongated fetch, easing slowly Sunday and further Monday.

Middleton should offer consistent 3ft+ waves tomorrow, easing back from a similar size Sunday, and coming in at 2ft+ Monday morning, easing through the day.

Winds tomorrow look light to moderate out of the S/SE, possibly backing right off mid-late morning before sea breezes, kick in. Sunday looks a little less favourable with a moderate S/SE breeze, possibly easing a little through the middle of the day. The Mid Coast will be mostly clean but tiny to 1ft+ on the favourable parts of the tide.

Monday looks fun across most locations down South as winds swing offshore from the N, possibly variable from the W/NW into the afternoon. Come Tuesday we're looking at small leftover 1-2ft sets off Middleton with a morning variable breeze ahead of S/SE sea breezes.

As touched on in Wednesday's notes, there's nothing significant on the cards until later in the week and more so next weekend.

A good mid-period W/SW swell is expected to build Friday, generated by a frontal system forming south-west of WA early week, splitting and projecting up through the Bight mid-week. The front will dip south-east on approach later week, producing a fun W/SW swell with S/SE winds, favouring the Mid Coast. We'll have a closer look at this on Monday though. Have a great weekend!
