Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 24th May)

Best Days: Sunday morning for desperate surfers, Tuesday morning south magnets

Recap

Easing S/SE groundswell from 2-3ft yesterday morning with offshore winds, while today a small bumpy NE swell was seen across the coast.

This week and weekend (May 25 - 28)

There isn't much to get excited about this coming period. A very inconsistent NE trade-swell from a sustained fetch of E/NE trades north of New Zealand is due late week.

This swell will be very very inconsistent with waits of 10minutes for sets. The swell should slowly build Friday to 1-2ft, with inconsistent 2ft sets Saturday and Sunday morning, fading into early next week.

Winds on Saturday when the swell should be best aren't ideal with a fresh N/NW'ly on the cards. Sunday will become clean again with a fresh W/NW change.

Beyond this, some small S'ly swell is likely Monday afternoon and Tuesday, produced by a weakening storm in the Southern Ocean, south of us over the weekend.

A weakening fetch of S/SW winds will be aimed through our southern swell window, with a small 2ft wave due later Monday and Tuesday morning at south magnets.

Winds later Monday aren't too good and S/SW, while Tuesday will be cleaner.

Longer term a stronger cold outbreak is due mid-next week, but the swell potential off this looks limited. More on this Friday.
