Swellnet Sessions
Colour & Movement
The surf has been very slow going on the Sunshine Coast lately. Locals are looking longingly toward December when the Coral Sea might finally begin to spark into action. Till then they have to make do with tiny windswell and weak leftovers from southerly groundswells.
Still, Pearce Leal and Ziggy Alberts have managed to make it appear better than it's been with this session full of colour and movement.
All photos by Pearce who's day job is as a travel photographer. You can check his work here.

Rip Curl Pro Portugal Day 2
It was an unremarkable day at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal as the organisers finished off Round 2 in three foot semi-barreling, semi-closing out waves. Only four heats were surfed, none of them compelling. The biggest news was Kai Otton talking about the arrival of an "Armaggeddon swell" but unfortunately for drama loving punters Otton also believes the organisers will avoid the swell by finishing before the comp it hits. Damn it!

Steamers in the Tropics
"There were three people in the lineup when we arrived, Ollie and two others who had taken the feral boat option and their chances with the swell. They were all wearing full wetsuits, booties and helmets and it wasn’t because it was cold!

Metal Steps & Blown Glass Ledges
From high on the bluff Tasmanian photographer, Dave Otto, captures the chaotic water during an unridden day at Shippies. The steps and ledges as magnificent as they are menacing. Imagine the mindset of the first surfer to come across this view and think 'yeah, that can be ridden.'

Rip Curl Pro Portugal Laydays
We're two days into the waiting period and not a single heat of the Portugal Pro has yet been surfed. The main site of Supertubos has been throwing up the odd tubos but it's far from super. As always, the organisers tell us that better waves are on the way.
Till then here's a mix of shots from the first two laydays.

Green Seas
It's with profound and protracted jealousy that I run these shots of Chris Lovell's. Profound 'cos he just got back from Indo where he surfed 15 different waves in 11 days while the surf was flat here. Protracted 'cos the last time I ran Chris' shots he was scoring the goods somewhere down the NSW South Coast while the surf was flat here.

Spring Suits
Nearing the halfway mark of the season it'd be fair to say that Spring has been very kind to the surfers of WA's south-west. Very kind indeed. Last month saw an extended run of mid-size swell with offshore mornings and mainly blue skies. And yesterday saw 8 feet of swell hit the region with offshore easterly's turning light and variable. The sort of surf East Coaster's would crawl over broken glass for.

Optional Extras
Steve Arklay recently shot a session that was packed with options - ramps, wedges, barrels and random peaks. A session with more features than you could throw your stick at.
