As was forecast earlier this month, Victoria is having a stellar run of swell. While some connoiseurs have argued that it hasn't been top shelf conditions, no-one can argue with the duration of this spectacular mid-winter run. It's been two weeks of overhead to very-far-overhead waves with another wee burst due later this week.

Perennial traveller, Joel Coleman from Saltmotion Gallery, has just returned from his latest jaunt. This time it was a sailing boat trip around Fiji put together by The Perfect Wave. The boat, The Regina, is a classic skiff that ran on the trades between Fiji's most popular wave, Cloudbreak, and many of the lesser-known, hard-to-access waves.

"There were three people in the lineup when we arrived, Ollie and two others who had taken the feral boat option and their chances with the swell. They were all wearing full wetsuits, booties and helmets and it wasn’t because it was cold!

I recently had the good fortune to spend a week on board the Carpe Vita in the Maldives. This is the kind of charter that can ensure diehard surfers get that totally surfed out feeling every day, while at the same time making sure your non-surfing partner or lower level frother has everything at hand to keep them happy.

The photographs tell the story of the waves the crew scored.
