Photos: Maldives Report - April

The Maldives Surf Report is brought to you by World Surfaris and curated by Richard Kotch at Hudhuranfushi. At the beginning of each month during the winter surf season Rich will update swell conditions as well as bring you the best photos.

Following text and photos by Rich:

April 2019, Hudhuranfushi Report

The biggest problem with a super consistent month is that it’s hard to find a way to describe it without sounding like you’re exaggerating. Yet the truth is that April had fun 3-5ft waves waves every day, and aside from a windy three days that coincided with a big but wonky swell right at the end of the month, it was either sheet glass or light offshore every single day!

I’ve been sending in these reports for years now, looking back through them it’s clear that April is the most repetitive of all the months over here. There are few certainties in life or surfing, but you can be sure you are going to score if you come to Lohis in April!

Cheers,
Rich

they are being built on "man made island extensions"...to me they looked to be about 2 or 3 meters above high tide....we'll below the level of any tsunami or even large storm surge.

Figured it would be something like that. Would want to be consistent to offset that view!!!

There is a sentence that should raise concerns "Chinese building apartments". Given the amount of Chinese involvement in that country which is really significant and we have seen what one Chinese developer is willing to do in Fiji. I wonder if Lohi's and other surf operations up there are in the firing line, especially if pressure is applied to the Maldivian Government in regards to paying back their loans. I doubt the Maldives will be the same in years to come, hope I am wrong.

Wow that is the epitome of shitting in your own nest!
I had not seen photos of the bridge until now, what a fucken eyesore.
It saddens me to see as the Maldives was once a really beautiful place but again it is going down the shitter due to greed and money.

Chinese and all development there in large part for surfing tourism,

So before you complain.
1. stop local comps
2. do not support professionals
3. do not support world tours
4. do not buy a surf product with a pros name on it,
5. make it clear to your mates, stop getting their kids into surfing. stick to the rugby, cricket, ball sports etc etc etc instead,

Otherwise Chinese will start surfing next, like the Japanese did, and every major international break will have 1,000 guys out at a time.

It's your choice.........

Pity the local surfers not just the visitors.
The people staying in those apartments are going to want to get into the water.
How many people are going to watch the Olympics ? F...ing millions of them.
Misery Guts here thinks doom and gloom the end is nigh.

You think whats happening in Fiji and the Maldives is bad. You should see what the British and other European nations did to Bondi, Manly, Coogee, maroubra, the Gold Coast, torquay, newcastle, wollongong, the californian coast, the jersey shore, florida..... and those white guys.. fuck.. everytime I paddle out at my local its just crawling with white guys on surfboards made in Australia and america... its fucked ay boys. Australia used to be a beautiful place but its going down the shitter thanks to greed and money. humph.

You know I heard a scientist on the radio the other day saying that the east coast of Australia has a greater deforestation rate than in the Amazon.

I'd be happy to go along with that.
