Tragic. There's no question Kelly is the greatest competitive surfer ever but the best all round surfer? Andy's smooth, casual but violent attack on anything that he was thrown into gets my vote. Another shooting star that shone so brightly but burned out too soon. Can't wait to see this movie!

This looks like its not going to hide the demons or gloss over the real struggles and thats a damn good thing. AI is a hands down legend but fuck it's annoyed me how the surf media completely ignored his illness and drug addiction. The "lets just pretend their is not a drug issue" in surfing does not help anyone. Put AI on a massive pedestal for his surfing but lets recognise his deep flaws and demons and fire a warning for others.

Agree Lost. The industry was well aware of his addictions but choose to not pull him up on it as they did not want to tarnish their brands. One of the only guys that could rattle Kelly and yet bring out the best in him also.

Was that jordan peterson in there giving the psychology run down?

(you know the supposed right wing nut job superstar of the alt right)

- or alternatively the smart dude of no particular wing resonating with a hell of a lot of people atm

Either way, interesting choice of psyche doc for a surf vid

The cultural revolution is complete
(intended humourously)

I really didn't like Andy when he first came on the scene. I just took him as another one of those brash Americans.

But he came from less salubrious circumstances, the chip on his shoulder was from having been pushed down repeatedly, and he was the one that took it up to Kelly in his prime. He was the one that made Kelly think he had met his match, he pushed Kelly, and very few did that in his golden years.

And his wife is a sweet sweet lady, from what I can tell from afar, and I always pay close attention to the quality of the people who are around you, and they will always colour my judgement on people. I wish the whole family well, and I think this is one I'd really like to watch.

Him and his brother, man they can push the envelope.
