Who said twin fins are no good in the barrel? Watch as Josh Kerr blazes in and around the pit on his 5'6" twinny.

Great surfing, questionable soundtrack.

I get the feeling in those waves and with his level of skill he could ride a fridge door and look good. Not sure about the rest of us....

Agree Lost. However, I've seen a lot of Josh's surfing over the years and i reckon he is one of the most underrated tube riders - probs cos he is better known for his airs. Throw in his recent big wave bravado and you have an awesome/well rounded surfer.

I thought I was a hero surfing a twinny in 4-5' beachies then I see this. The guy is a dead set freak and love those classic twin bottom turns ala MR.

Should surf a heat at backdoor on one.
Sounds like they tracked the audio from the cassette player in my VL.

Yeh mate Yeh. It was along the lines of "longtime readers will know where I stand on twins: just too damn twitchy, lacking in extension, and loose coming out of turns" . As I recall it I thought you were talking about your own performance at the time and not necessarily in the water!! But then you further commented " But what about those twinnies eh? Terrible in hollow waves! Oh Stu no escaping this one!!

I call it 'versatile thinking'. The ability to say one thing with utmost passion, and then, quite incredibly, adopt a new position with equal conviction.

Amazingly, I've never lost an argument with this method.

Modern well designed Twins with narrow tails (generally rounded pins) excel in the barrel as far as I'm concerned. 8 years now, of using them at my local barreling slab and I would say the extra speed is an advantage in the type of backdoor sections we regularly get. My current twinny for bigger hollower waves is a 6'2" x 19 3/4 36 liter Desert Twin by Webby. It holds incredibly well through turns with unbelievable drive. Just ordered a 6'5" Revolution Twin pin off Jim Banks as well. Banks does them up to 9'0 which he rides at massive Ullus.

Webby should be picking my 6'4" Desert Twin up from the glassers this week, really looking forward to getting it. Bad timing as the onshores have set in, but it'll be a bright spot in a notoriously crap time of year.
