Aloha Manly Style Pro attracts a smorgasbord of surfers

mattbemrosethrowingbuckets.jpegSydney’s Curl Curl Beach will host the second event of the Bacardi Surf Tour on Sunday with a smorgasbord of world-class surfers lining up in the Aloha Manly Style Pro.

With $1000 and 1000 ratings points awarded to the winner, the Inaugural event has attracted forty surfers from all over Sydney, Newcastle and the South Coast with local favourite Matt Bemrose confirmed as the No.1 seed. Bemrose finished fourth in last months Triple Bull Cronulla Pro and with Blake Thornton, Connor O’Leary and Nic Squires chasing WSL ratings points overseas, the powerful goofy footer will be tough to beat on his home break.

Bemrose knows a thing or two when it comes to competitive surfing travelling the world as Volcom International Surf Team Manager where he mentors Volcom’s top surfers on the WSL World Tour. “The first event kicked off in super fun waves at Cronulla, now the second stop is at my home break and one I’m looking forward to competing in”, said Bemrose. “The caliber of competitors at Cronulla was top notch and I’m guessing this event will see another stacked draw, should be a super exciting day.”

Former World Tour surfer Heitor Alves and fellow Brazilian Krystian Kymerson will also be in action on Sunday. Kymerson will be looking to repeat his Cronulla performance where he won the G-Shock Wave of the Day for a huge front side alley-oop that scored a 9.33.

Aloha Manly Style employees Ollie Ingham and Jesse Francis have received the two event Wildcards. Ingham faces a tough decision of which board to ride with store owner Tim Hanrahan throwing the keys at Ingham offering him any board in the shop. “It’s been a while since I have competed so I am a bit fired up for Sunday”, said Ingham. “Timmy has offered me any board in the shop so I have over 1000 boards to choose from, I will probably go with the Chilli Spawn but will make the final decision the day before the event.”

Following a massive day on the beach competitors and members of Curl Curl, Freshwater, Queenscliff and North Steyne Boardriders will attend the Bacardi After Party at the Hotel Steyne for the crowning of the Inaugural Aloha Manly Style Pro Champion.

The three remaining Bacardi Surf Tour events will be held in September and October on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Each of the five events on the Bacardi Surf Tour will carry ratings points with the overall tour winner being decided on each surfers best four results.

The tour winner will receive $2500 and prizes from Bacardi, G-Shock and Swellnet. The 2016 Aloha Manly Style Pro is proudly supported by Bacardi, G-Shock, Swellnet and Hotel Steyne.
