Patagonia joins Duke's Day celebrations

This coming January, 8-10, 2015 is the 100th year celebration of Duke Kahanmoku igniting Australian surf culture and with it a three day celebration that will see swimming and surfing legends from all over the world come to Freshwater Beach to not only celebrate this once in 100 year occasion, but also share the stoke of surf culture and exhibitions of swimming and all forms of wave riding.

Keeping in sync with the Freshwater Surfing Community vision statement of the community's love and respect for the ocean and the environment, we are extremely stoked to announce the support of internationally respected clothing company Patagonia.

"We could not ask for a better sponsor," said Duke's Day committee president Stephen Bennett.  "A big part of our past and current celebration is to raise the awareness of looking after our planet and we believe that there is no better company to help us celebrate than Patagonia who we feel lead the world in Corporate Responsibility."

Patagonia's Australian General Manager Dane O'Shanassy commented, "Patagonia is pleased to be able to make a contribution to an event celebrating such an important event in Australian surfing and history. We look forward to sharing some of Patagonia's core values on raising environmental awareness at the event."

Besides screening some of their films Patagonia will be presenting the closing ceremony celebrations that will include live music, final appearances with our honourees including Brain Keaulana, Pam Burrridge, Shane Gould, Tom Carroll and Midget Farrelly and original members of the Duke Kahanmoku Surf Team, as well as the winner of our Duke Shorts Film Competition.  One talented emerging filmmaker has a chance to win the state of the art still/and 4K video Panasonic Lumix GH4 camera and lens.  All the finalists will be screened to the many thousands of people there on the night! Other special prizes including wetsuits will be won on the night courtesy of Patagonia.
