Info, I think you find I having been saying Morrison only had two jobs this and last year.
One = Safe and effective quarantine (as dictated by his Constitutional responsibilities).
Two = To arrange and operate an effective vaccination program.

Straight from Labors paid facebook adds.

Actually the government main two jobs in the last year or so have been.

1. Health: Prevent as many deaths from Covid as possible and ensure the health system doesn't get overrun.

2. Economy: Ensure people keep their heads above water and Australia doesn't fall into a deep dark recession.

Have we been successful in these two areas, on a world scale we have been 100% successfully, in regard to deaths and Covid cases we both know the biggest fuck ups have been in one state, under the leader you think is doing a good job?

The economy is doing pretty well, jobless rate is now below the rate before the pandemic, housing market booming, construction booming, it's far from the deep dark long recession most of us were fearing over a year ago.

Economy wise this is best case scenario if people had said a year ago this is where we would be both in regard to covid/health system and economy, no one would believe it, we would all take it every day of the week.

Yeah okay the vaccine rollout has been disappointing, but how much has that been down to the issues with Astrazeneca, much of our program was based on this after the first vaccine feel through.

With hindsight you can bet they slowed things down when the blood clots came up, our careful slow approach has been an advantage, you would have been whinging right now saying the government has blood on their hands if they had gone full steam ahead and we had deaths from blood clots.

In regards to quarantine, look you clearly live in an idealistic dream world on many issues, you even thought we should quarantine everyone on Xmas island, which is ridiculous the cost to fly people there and back and cost of food etc would mean people would need to pay $5000-$10.000 each for quarantine, and we live in a western country, we arent like China that can build huge things like hospitals overnight, we live in a country over regulated with red tape etc by the time a quarantine centre ever gets built, this shit will be over, and it will sit there unused for 20 years.

And the irony is, you are a labor voter, the red tape and overregulation is what you guys love and what LNP try to dismantle

But hey whatever makes you feel good by whinging right....anyway glad you only get one vote.

PS. Im happy to argue with fools like you, because your arguments are so weak and easy to debunk.

These days?
Everyone knows im a Scomo fan, have been since before the last election.

Gladys, i dont live in NSW i live in Vic, im not interested in others state leaders, but when people like Sheepdog or Guy that also dont live in NSW bag her and try to put Daniel Andrews on a pedestal im going to call the bullshit out.

Stats are very clear comparing the two.

Stats are useful when objective, however in tribal politics not so much.

Did you account for the last Victorian lockdown occurring due to a failure of South Australian / Morrison Quarantine?

The NSW government were warned that their model of containment against the Delta variant was unlikely to work. There is large amounts of data / evidence available which they ignored.

In terms of keeping Australia safe and death rate low Morrison in the early stages acted aggressively against zero infection containment strategies.
Its been the states that have done all the heavy lifting of containment plus the state medical services are the ones running the high care required.

Its been Morrison who has played politics attacking Labor state governments for quarantine failures a system they are responsible for.
Note Frydenberg's public attack on Vic state Labor (they may or may not have deserved) and deafening silence re NSW's which look like shutting most of Australia down.

The aggressive actions of WA state Labor government has meant Australia can pay some of the debt Morrison is running up keeping mining / oil and gas running unlike the current situation in the NT. The Federal Liberal party attacks stop abruptly after the land side election.

I think defending Morrison spinning how great the vaccine roll out was while supply just wasn't there is a good indicator of failing to see the bleeding obvious plus the levels incompetence running through this government's ministers that's before we get to Barnaby.

Hey Indo, health is a State responsibility, so your point number one for ScoMo’s jobs was incorrect.

The best way for ScoMo to ‘protect the economy’ was to get quarantine and vaccination right. Fine for you to say it’s from Labor’s Facebook page, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. The blatant cheerleading for Gladys and ScoMo makes the rest of your arguments, which are often quite reasonable, carry less weight.

I was quite ropable about Gladys locking down Randwick LGA while letting the rest of Sydney go about their business, including going visiting Blowin and friends. It. Made. No. Sense.

There was rampant spread all around Sydney including the Hills district, Inner West, Canada Bay, Liverpool (Hoxton Park), south west Sydney (Casula, Campbelltown etc), but Gladys said ‘no, they’re fine, go on holidays all over the country’.

At the time of restricting Randwick LGA to movement within the Sydney metro area there were literally zero site of concern in the whole of Randwick LGA.

By Friday morning there were just two sites of concern in Randwick LGA and tens of sites outside Sydney, Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick, and Gladys locked down Randwick along with the other highly infected LGAs

Inner West, Canada Bay and Bayside, with tens of sites of concern, were restricted to Sydney metro. Everywhere else was free to roam the State and the country.

By Saturday morning I think Gladys and Brad Hazzard we’re the only two people in Sydney who didn’t know that all of Sydney was going to be locked down. (along with Central Coast, Wollongong, and belatedly Shellharbour)

Sorry, but she mucked this up big time, risked other States by her inaction, and has caused a lockdown to go weeks or more likely a month or more by not shutting down quickly.

What state do you live in Batfink?

Look im not going to argue with you Labor die hards, you guys are always going to whinge about an LNP government, I've said what needs to be said and stand by it.

Im just happy as a tradie we aren't in a recession and that the construction industry is pretty much booming, im even happy that my house is worth a lot more than it was last year.

Also happy my mother who has a weak immune system has had her jabs and even if we were to some how become overrun with Covid, you would expect those that are high risk that really wanted the jab have at least had their first shot, even here quite a few people have said they have had their shot.

Personally I have nothing to complain about other than not being able to go to Indo, which is currently the opposite of Australia with Covid hitting an al time high and hospital system collapsing, people now dying because they are being turned away.

BTW. The Age is generally regarded as a left leaning media outlet, for perspective according to this media bias check site, it sits in exactly the same place on the left as the Australian does on the right.

Batfink good writeup and largely agree here. From what I could see, going harder earlier would have been better. We will see how far it spreads.

With that in mind, I will attempt a quick wrap up around the nation

Sydney - Limo driver potential exposure from flight crews (?) transportation, in community, city now locked down, perhaps a bit late, cases throughout metro area and exposure sites in regional NSW. Multiple exposure sites all over the city as Batfink alluded to. Led to: Melbourne drycleaners (2), Perth resident who had been in Bondi (3 I think); Perth lockdown. Delta strain.

QLD - mine worker gets infection in quarantine trying to get to work, goes to work on NT mine. 900 workers go through mine and are being isolated in other states. Led to: NT lockdown, Buff club exposure. Delta strain.
- international returnee infected while in quarantine (test negative while there), goes to restaurant, exposure site. Alpha strain.
- admin worker in covid hospital tests positive 10 days after symptoms, travels as far as Townsville. Premier of QLD was quite angry at this this morning I was told. Undetermined strain.

NT - in lockdown as of 1pm Sunday as of community exposure in Darwin and surrounds.

WA - Perth and Peel in lockdown as of returning case who had been in Bondi.

Vic - 2 cases from drycleaners, via Sydney. None further but waiting and seeing. Have closed to greater Sydney

Tas - OK I think, has travel restrictions.

SA - OK so far, has added some restrictions.

ACT - not sure if any cases. Some restrictions in place.

Correct me if wrong here on any of this.

Indo, don't give a fuck about your website. I've read the paper for fifty fucken years. Used to be the gold standard of print journalism in Australia under the Fairfax family, including putting Howard and Costello to the sword. The internet and Zuckerberg killed the rivers of gold, it went the way of many and couldn't afford that journalism any more, was up for grabs and Costellos Nine Group run it now as a front for LNP propaganda. Costello living out a revenge fantasy and his Packer envy now running it and editorially now not too different from Herald Sun. All these papers run at heavy losses but provide cover for the mining billionaires. We live in a captured State, not a democracy, the story of The Age and it's demise are a great example of this. If you don't see these things as I do, good for you, but to me that makes you a victim of that capture, or maybe a symptom of it. Anyway, it's not a leftie paper any more.

adam12's picture
adam12's picture
adam12 Tuesday, 29 Jun 2021 at 11:58pm

Further Indo, Kerry Stokes is a mining billionaire, Murdoch makes his money in Aust. as a mining billionaire, Costellos Nine Group represents them and the other mining billionaires. They own 96% of the media.
Your website doesn't measure the stories that DON'T get printed, which is often more important than what is printed if you are judging editorial political leaning. I know I won't change your opinion as you are stubborn, you think The Age is leftie and Antifa is a thing, but I still think we could be mates if we knew each other. I like contrarians.

Pretty sure Gina Rheinhart tried to buy the SMH too. Maybe the mining billionaires just had childhood fantasies about being journalists? Surely it’s got nothing to do with owning the propaganda machine? That’s a very ungenerous view of our unelected masters.

The press conference in Brisbane this morning was a big eye opener with the Premier, Deputy and others pulling no punches.

- 20,000 non-Australians citizens arrived in the country last month. ABS sourced data. ABS have been instructed by Morrison to stop providing the public this data. The ethnic background of this 20,000 people were listed in groups.

- Qld only has enough vaccine atm to last 8 days. QLD has asked for more vaccines but have been knocked back.

- QLD are telling under 40 year olds not to get the AZ jab.

- man who is case one in QLD outbreak atm isn't vaccinated yet has flown in and out of the country multiple times since pandemic started (as approved by the Federal authorities)

- Qld want international arrivals drastically reduced and limited strictly to Australian citizens.

- Qld want all international arrivals to be vaccinated before arriving.

The gloves are thankfully finally off and we are getting the truth about how Morrison has totally fucked up quarantine and the vaccine stroll-out

Let's just forget the Age thing, you can have your view and i will share my view with a independent website that specialises in checking media bias.

But seriously how can you think Antifa is not a thing?...Im assuming you think they don't exist?

So who are all these people that openly identify as Antifa even proudly display the name and flag.

The same people that in the last year or so have rioted on the streets night after night in places like Portland for literally months on end, the same people who clash with police, throw molotov cocktails, set buildings alight, smash windows and use violence and intimidation towards anyone who opposes them they have even murder/shot people..

Do you think all the arrest are fake?

Do you think the hundreds of news articles are fake?

Do you think the hundreds of photos or clips on YouTube are fake?

Maybe your mindset is just because they are not a traditionally structured group with a leader at the top they are not a group or a problem?

Even if you want to swallow Biden's silly "Antifa is just an ideology line" does that mean they are any less dangerous or destructive?

It's as ridiculous as saying radical islam and white supremest are not issues because they are just ideologies.

Indo, knew that would trigger you. We had this argument before. I call these recent people anarchists with a label. They are called or call themselves Antifa but it's not like it's some club or biker gang or even loose political group with an identifiable base or membership/leadership. When I first heard about them it was in the post-punk era and it was a European thing between Nationalist and Neo-Nazi punks, the rioters in Portland or wherever aren't Nationalist Punks I don't think, just anarchists and criminal opportunists that get that label, but I just think they need to come up with a new label, Antifa is, as they say, so dated, just as it is to call what they oppose 'fascism', in the true sense. Anyway, we all don't have to think the same, thank fuck.

"20,000 non-Australians citizens arrived in the country last month. ABS sourced data. ABS have been instructed by Morrison to stop providing the public this data. The ethnic background of this 20,000 people were listed in groups."

Just reading about this, to state it like this is very misleading.

It just means people travel on a passport other than an Australian passport, many people that live in Australia and do not have Australian passports, like my wife, she has lived and worked in Australia for 15 years, but there is pretty close to zero benefit for her to become an Aussie as such and get an Aussie passport, only benefit is the right to vote and work for the government, but she would lose so many benefits in Indonesia like right to work or own a business etc.

And who are the people most likely to travel at this time? (not tourist)

Yep you guessed it people like my wife who have family overseas, that obviously want to go home and see family or have things like friends weddings to attended or even have business connections in their country of birth.

Many people are also dual citizens and mix their passports, for instance my kids have both passports, so does much of my extended family.

From article

""Let me be clear on that the data from the Australian Border Force (ABF) sets out very clearly that on average 80 per cent of returning travellers to Australia are either Australian citizens, permanent residents or immediate family members," she said."

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-30/qld-indonesia-link-to-delta-case-...

So your looking at 20% that might be coming here from another country for business or to attend a wedding or funeral or just see family etc.

Re the 20,000 non-Aussies arriving, a large number of those are kiwi's under the travel bubble we have with NZ, so it's a misleading stat.

QLD Premier and her CHO have gone on the attack today, some of it warranted no doubt, some of it to distract that they've had outbreaks from hotel quarantine that have now locked down NT and WA, with the miner that lived in Bendigo, with zero cases for many months, forced into hotel quarantine in QLD and put in a room between infected travellers. He caught it, off he went to the mines, rest is history.

What the QLD lot have also done is gone full anti-vax today, pleading with all QLD'ers not to get the AZ vaccine. It is a genuine shit-show right now in Australia and the media are loving every second of it.

I actually think the politicians right now are happy for covid to keep ticking along and happy with all the hysteria, those currently in power are all romping it in their elections, they don't have much else to do but talk about the virus. Genuine question, what are all the other politicians doing all day long at the moment, just cruising along collecting their full pay cheques, zero attention to anything but covid.

GS good post above, we watched that QLD media presentation and our jaws dropped. I posted very soon after but asked for it deleted, hoping a national news source would pick it up and dissect it in full - and give the Feds the time & right of reply. Did they reply? I heard 2nd hand that they did but won't speculate what their reply was.

If it's true, then at the very least the narrative we have been fed on who can get in and who can get out is somewhere distant from the reality, in my opinion. DX3 I briefly heard which nationalities' citizens were coming in, and it wasn't all NZ. I'll wait for someone to fully confirm what he said, and if the ABS will stop providing these stats. It was the most gloves-off media event of the whole pandemic I reckon.

FR - dropping off the young ones for work: tell me about it, internal tourism is booming. A plague of Cruisers and big dual axle vans on our house. The prices of 4wd rigs to see the country are booming too. It's led to some interesting stuff in the young person's 4wd world, where there seems to be a trend of 'how far can you get a cheap 2wd' and I've seen an ED Falcon get to Cape York on yt! Another Falcon, an RTV ute, doing Fraser in 2wd.... Cheap thrills when Landcruisers are $130,000.

VJ you are right about the state Labor vs Fed gov right now. Federal Labor is nowhere to be seen, but perhaps it’s part of a national Labor strategy at the moment to get the states with a strong-hold Labor vote (WA/QLD/Vic) to do all the heavy lifting in painting the feds as a basket case with covid, then closer to the election Albanese and Co will come to the party a bit more in terms of their presence.

The political fighting hit a new level today for sure, the heat is being turned up, and right now the federal government have no answers to it.

Worth remembering, these government folk really don’t give a shit about us, they just want to do what they think will be popular so they retain their power.

So I'll ask again. How many have died from this super, super end of the world virus in Australia this year ? How many in hospital ? Positive cases travelling can't be to crook if they're on the road.
Read a great tweet today from Jordan Schachtel that sums up Australia perfectly
"Zero covid is full fascism.A country that attempts this strategy turns their nation into a rights removing surveillance regime. And worse ,the ' democracies ' imposing these measures do so with the consent of propagandized majorities of the population. "
Seems to be 2 options:
a) Learn to live with it and get on with life

OR
b) Continue with authoritarian lockdowns forever
Australia has obviously chosen option B
No real surprise though as Australia is a nation of bedwetters with both the government and the populace constantly hovering over the panic button.
No deaths, half the country imprisoned in their homes,Stasi police itching to come down hard on dissenters ( Vicpol the leaders so far ).

From Blowins article.

Looks pretty reasonable, holidays is a low figure, the "other" would be people like my wife who are Australian residents but not naturalised Australians so dont have Australian passports, going home to country of birth to visit family etc then returning.

The visit family and friends could be made up of a bulk of family visiting for all kinds of reasons, births, weddings, funerals, illness or just to support during lockdowns, grandparents act as minders for kids for example. (in effect taking pressure off childcare facilities)

As we cant go to Indo ourselves we have considered trying to bring in her parents in for a few months to help look after kids etc when lockdowns and just generally safer for them to be here than in Indo with rampant covid at their age, but now they have their vaccinations not such a big deal.

Point is there is stories and often decent reasons behind many arrivals, its not always a black and white, Aussie and not Aussie, some people have lived and worked in Australia for 50 years and dont hold Aussie passports.

Her father got the Chinese vax and i think her mother a higher risk group might have even paid and got Pfizer but not 100% sure what she ended up getting.

Yeah returning to Indo issue is.

1. The 3 months min required out of country, id love it but thats 3 months without work.
2. Super high flights cost (4 in the family)
3. 5 day quarantine in Indo
4. 14 day quarantine in Aust with at least a $5K price tag for the family.
5. Then an extra 14 days loss of work, so another few K

Plus doing quarantine in a hotel for that long with both kids under 7

Plus with how much money we would spend, i could build a house on one of our blocks of land we have in Indo, so in my mind once this is over i will get a place built instead.

Even bringing the inlays here for a few months wouldn't be cheap.

It does suck though because lots of areas of Indo are close to empty, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, i know once we get back to Indo and it will be crazy crowded, we will regret not going now.
