Very similar to Stage 4 vic lockdown? The thing that baffles me the most (lived in vic) is the zoning. A cluster in Sydney affects Tweed Heads or Tibooburra? Surely we can refine these specifics. It’s the little guy/gal people that lose. A common theme..

Expecting anyone from Sydney who’s bolted to the regions for school holidays to lock down for 14 days…..lol.

Yeah Blowin, been playing the scenario's in my mind. Eg It's my young fam's annual snow holiday, we're staying at the hotel up in the snow with 100 rooms. The kids are frothing. We head off early on Friday, get there Friday arvo as the city goes World War Z. Then on Saturday we're advised we're to observe lockdown up at the snow: ok. So.... can't eat out, must stay in room I guess? But can enjoy the outdoors, cool. Need to access the hallway to get to the stairs to get out of the hotel (cough). Do a couple of ski runs. Hey, nice people on the lift next to me (cough). Need food - it's OK, can go to the supermarket up on snow... (cough).

If delta variant is spreading so fast in HQ and in shopping centres, how is this situation going to work? No way my fam's missing out on annual snow holiday, no way I'm dropping the 5K or so for nothing...

We were on the highway heading south thinking how lucky we were to be going on holiday when the wife read the fine print.

14 day self-isolation for anyone from affected areas who travelled to regional NSW after 21st June.

Did a quick U-turn, then panic bought 397 rolls of bog paper, and headed home.

810km away on the Tweed Coast, we are now placed under some restrictions (border passes also required to get into Qld now too).

Ironically, if Brisbane (110km away) or the Gold Coast (15km away) was declared a hotspot, Far Northern NSW would likely be exempt.

DISGRACEFUL by NSW. All the hard yards done by the Viccos, basically spat on for LNP political ideology. So far, for not locking down IMMEDIATELY like other states, Gladystan has infected, NEW ZEALAND, QUEENSLAND, AND VICTORIA. Fucking BRAVO! Well done!! If on day one of this outbreak , they hadve locked down it'd nearly be over. But Nooooooo not Sydney!!! And for days we'll refuse to even use the phrase "lock down". We'll use "Morrisonisms" like "stay at home orders". ROTFL!!!!!
And on Thursday, when EIGHTEEN CASES were recorded, NOOOOOOO we wont lock down then either. We'll wait till saturday afternoon, after EVERY cafe and restaurant from Wollongong to Newscastle had bought perishables on the saturday morning for the weekend!!!!!! Most of which will now be written off, putting even more strain on small "mum and dad" business. A wase of beautiful produce, thousands of animals slaughtered just to be land fill.
But the great news is GLADYS HAS A NEW MAN!!!!!!!!! And young girls can still be strip searched by cops without a parent present!!!!!
LONG LIVE GLADYSTAN

Ha ha, hard yards down by Victorians, oh please Victoria has been the biggest joke in this pandemic, doesnt victoria hold the record for most days under lockdown in the whole world?...come and live here and you will know hw much it sucks and im not even in a city area where the harder lock downs have been.

We have also seen Victorians bring in Covid to NSW & QLD and SA to Vic etc

This is about two weeks old both states now have more lockdown days and return travellers, but it puts things in perspective.

NSW has got a long way to catch up to the mess Victoria has made.

Current up to date Covid case stats.

Vic cases=20,706
NSW cases=5,725

@Guy Smiley , you would think that mask wearing would help and its a debatable topic, the type of mask definitely makes a difference in my opinion. This next conclusion is not my quote but from the attached link. Conclusion:

The recommendation to wear surgical masks to supplement other public health measures did not reduce the SARS-CoV-2 infection rate among wearers by more than 50% in a community with modest infection rates, some degree of social distancing, and uncommon general mask use. https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/m20-6817. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01394-0

I beg to disagree sypkan, imagine for a minute what the Murdoch rags would be saying if it Labor were in govt in NSW and Federally.

Let’s review the hot mess’ recent history - ruby princess, $200m rorts, going out with a crook pollie and now a locking down too late. Compare that to the treatment of Gillard and RC review into her relationship 15 years earlier. She has had a free ride on her massive failings for too long.

Good luck NSW you’re going to need it and some.

Can someone tell me whats the point in getting vaccinated if your subjected to
the same lockdown as non vaccinated humans and to top it off you can get very
sick from having it and the biggest major BLOOPER you can still contract the
china virus just as easily. Whats the fcken point what rubbish im over all this crap.

Hey Evosurfer. I think it makes you immune from the Chinavirus, not Coronavirus so if you get it it should keep those damn Chinese away from you (i know how much they get under your skin, hence the vaccine is actually made to get under your skin to stop them!).. Tallyho squire! Bottoms up!

Gladys said something today along the lines of:
there are 2 million people vaccinated in NSW and when there are 10 million the government will be ok with talking about what "COVID Normal" looks like.

Whatever that is, it seems a looong way away.

I understand the frustration.

But it's kind of unrealistic to think that there could be a system where those vaccinated dont have to be in lockdown and those that aren't do, it would be impossible to police and cause uproar ad division,

If vaccinated you can still contract it but it's less likely and your far less likely to spread it and the chance of the person getting proper sick is super super rare.

So vaccination makes sense, but i do agree there has to be an end game, there has to be a point where when everyone has had a chance to get vaccinated, they do away with lockdowns and open up borders and just let it rip, take some big political balls though. (see Singapore article in vaccination thread)

Pretty funny for the last year you have been trying to defend the complete incompetence of Dan Andrews, but now NSW has an outbreak you are all over it and it's not even your state.

Even if this outbreak gets out of control it's going to be sometime until NSW even gets close to breaking Victorias records

Still got well over 100 days to beat our world record of longest lockdowns.

Still got another 766 deaths to catch up to Victorias deaths.

Still got just under 15,000 covid cases to catch up to our 20,706 cases.

Anyway good luck NSW, just look at the positive side of things everyone in NSW will be lining up for their vaccination now.

Supafreak, the Covid variants may also have their own transmission methods and some of the old data may no longer be relevant. For example in Sydney the other day they reckon one delta case was transmitted as one person walked past another in the shops and that can only be via airborne transmission. Hopefully a mask offers some protection in that scenario.

Info, I think you find I having been saying Morrison only had two jobs this and last year.
One = Safe and effective quarantine (as dictated by his Constitutional responsibilities).
Two = To arrange and operate an effective vaccination program.

Now you can deny it all you like but everything that has happened across the country has flowed from his total failures in both including all the deaths in his Aged Care facilities. (Right now only 1 in 6 Aged Care workers in Federal operated facilities have received one dose of vaccine FFS).

I have also been saying by and large the state premiers, Labor and Liberal, have done an outstanding job given Morrison's failures but right now its bar on impossible to find a medical (Covid) specialist that doesn't think that Morrison hasn't fucked up Quarantine and the Vaccine Stroll-out and NSW was locked down a week too late.

Now in expectation of #there'salwaysacomment

@distracted , the problem is unless its a N95 mask you are probably wasting your time particularly in close quarters like public transport etc , the homemade cloth and masks brought at your local chemist wont stop much and after a hour or 2 are useless and a hazard to your own health. I believe the N95 can be washed and used again. Sure something may be better than nothing but the government needs to give people all the facts.

https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/personal-protective-equipment-infect.... While a surgical mask may be effective in blocking splashes and large-particle droplets, a face mask, by design, does not filter or block very small particles in the air that may be transmitted by coughs, sneezes, or certain medical procedures. Surgical masks also do not provide complete protection from germs and other contaminants because of the loose fit between the surface of the mask and your face.

"I beg to disagree sypkan, imagine for a minute what the Murdoch rags would be saying if it Labor were in govt in NSW and Federally."

well they'd probably be having a field day this week... but prior to this outbreak, they'd probably be going hard, ...but getting little traction... because it seems nsw has largely handled their outbreaks well, without going over the top, ...and while the leftist media has gone hard on gladys and co., regardless, almost demanding they go over the top... the track record has shown nsw have gotten the balance about right... up to now..

"Let’s review the hot mess’ recent history - ruby princess, $200m rorts, going out with a crook pollie and now a locking down too late. Compare that to the treatment of Gillard and RC review into her relationship 15 years earlier. She has had a free ride on her massive failings for too long.

Good luck NSW you’re going to need it and some."

wasn't the ruby princess a federal responsibility?

...the state / federal governments both passed the buck so much, I lost track...

200m rorts... and a crook boyfriend... yeh kinda shameful... but seriously, do labor really have the moral higher ground? ...do they not look after their own? ...dan's branch stacking springs to mind... as does a rich history of labor branch stacking in nsw...

as to gillard... one version of events was that it was all about mysoginy and sexism as per the abc, the age, etc.

another version of events is, the gloves were off somewhat, after how the media treated howard over a long period, and were treating abbott at the time, ...I think you'll find that's the left wing media...

personally I buy into version two, even though I cannot stand howard and abbott

do you really not think both sides of media have their targets and low points?

it's the name of the game...

and I find it rather tedious how the left constantly, and i mean really constantly... ie. relentlessly non stop nauseatingly constantly, whinge and moan about the murdoch press and the left targets... I've seen murdoch press do hit pieces on morrison, and do a heap on trump... never seem to see the left press bagging their man, person, humanoid...

speaking of hit pieces... this one by the abc seems rather desperate and pathetic...

and I cannot stand morrison either...

Im not arguing against where the murdoch media sits, I think that is pretty obvious, Im ssying yet despite their bias, they still have the occasional shot at their guy

the abc? ...not so much...

Im saying that that's the game, and that the constant whinging from the left totally overlooks the biased reporting from their side

you really don't think howard copped it from certain parts of the media? ...abbott?

you might say they deserved it, but that's just your perspective...

a conservative perspective would say gillard deserved it...

all just opinion really, an unbiased measure is almost impossible... but if I had to have a go...

I'd say they all deseved it

none of em particularly inspiring...

"It is clear we are now dealing with a virus that spreads far more easily - probably more than twice as easily - as the version that emerged in Wuhan at the end of 2019.

The Alpha variant, first identified in Kent, UK, performed a large jump in its ability to transmit. Now Delta, seen first in India, leapt further still.

This is evolution in action."

an inquiring mind has to ask... just evolution in action?

or a little enhancement and evolution in action?

which is a scary thought

but totally not inconceivable...

""This virus has surprised us a lot. It is beyond anything we feared," said Dr Aris Katzourakis, who studies viral evolution at the University of Oxford. "The fact it has happened twice in 18 months, two lineages (Alpha and then Delta) each 50% more transmissible is a phenomenal amount of change.""
