Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.
Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.
I saw TISM at a big day out didn't think much of them, personally i think they are overrated have a few cool tunes but generally just a joke gimmick band that dont really do it that well. (not sure why they have a cult like following)
Of all those gimmicky joke type bands IMHO Ween and Primus are the top of the heap, but even then then it wears thing pretty quick Primus first album Frizzle fry was good, but it tapered off after that and Ween probably hit their best on Chocolate and Cheese or the Mollusk.
Love this song, great story
Not from Frizzle fry but a classic Primus song
Please Stunet give me an ignore button for Talking Turkey, Shatners Basoon, Dale Cooper, Factotum, Pupkin, and any new fake profile he decides to create.
@Dale, that KC metal remix was classic! How was the mosh pit madness at those gigs!
"i think they are overrated have a few cool tunes but generally just a joke gimmick band that dont really do it that well. (not sure why they have a cult like following)"
Write off TISM and then post that tedium?!
Maybe the TISM lyrical focus and output cuts a bit close to your bone? Even if you're not fully conscious of it.
Gold, Indoid, gold.
TISM FOR EUROVISION!
“The dog leg. That dog had four legs. One you found in my trunk. The other three went out with the information you're thinking about right now. Two people you don't want coming around here if anything bad happens to me.”
agree indo, they can put on a good show
but definitely not on repeat in the tape deck
so many gimmick bands around then, love primus though
custard, what the fuck was that about?
I could've killed some friends who forced that unpleasantness on me
I get if people dont like Primus they are the kind of band you either like or you don't, but they are still a unique band, not many bands before them sound like they do not talking the slap bass thing, overall sound, musically they are all amazing musicians obviously Les claypool among the best bass players in the world, but even Herb was an amazing drummer and the guitarist forget his name quite good too.
Ween did/do what they do well and can play all countless styles of music and do it well also great musicians, they were/are a a joke band but did it in a clever kind of way, its rarely overdone or overplayed, its generally more subtle only song that maybe isn't is piss up a rope, that IMHO is their worst song from one of their worst albums.
I just never got them, they kind of like a bad fart joke, funny the first time but just no longevity, just full of gimmicks costumes and the songs are pretty much throw away and nothing special, people just like them for the lyrics, but i just find it all tacky, its all too obvious its just not very clever, it like stuff 15 year old boys would come up with when they are bored in class
But for some reason people are like TISM, yeah there cool and they have an almost like cult like status?
I dont know i just think if a band does that joke/gimmick thing it has to have something else, it actually has to be really good musically and be much more clever lyrically and definitely ditch all the props like costumes or stage props.
Primus is nerdsville. But nothing like in a good nerdy way. Just tedious 'musicianship'. The flipside of that coin would be Tool or whatever.
Ween were late to the party. Maybe interesting if you didn't know any better.
I'm surprised those other 2nd raters the Flaming Lips didn't get a guernsey.
All having a crack, but...meh.
I'm guessing, and it might be a wild one, but satire isn't your strong suit is it, Indoid?
When I think of a 'comedy band' I think of something like these guys.
Nirvana hitting here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJDqfVC7aoA
Each to their own you can have your TISM, ill have a bit of Ween and Primus.
Never heard Primus and nerd mentioned together though when ive seen them its been more that bogan surfer crowd but one time was at the offshore festival in torquay and other time on the Goldcoast which could explain that.
Interestingly enough, ween actually started in 84 but i think their stuff though the 80s is pretty low fi EPs.
Flaming lips, never interested me.
Speaking of Primus and Tool did anyone go to those offshore festivals at Torquay when Bells was on? (both bands played it)
They were pretty good value, camp out for a few days, go watch the comp then drink all arvo with bands playing till midnight.
Went to the one in 97 and 98.
I saw primus at one of those shows indo, i'm not a huge fan, friends totally into them, i was more a casual observer, it was good, missed the contest, even better...
Balls of fire
There was a bit of Fugazi talk earlier, have you heard Coriky?
"Coriky is a band from Washington, D.C. Amy Farina plays drums. Joe Lally plays bass. Ian MacKaye plays guitar. All sing."

Help me out here people. This song has blasted itself back into to my head but I no idea what it’s called or who by. From memory it was a classic 90’s song with a very distinct vocals. Now, im gonna have a crack at said vocals and hope this gets us over the line - ehhhhhhhhhhhh eeeeeeeeee iiiiiiiiii eeyyhhhhhhhhh.
I tried searching through the back catalog of swellnet vids circa 2017-18 as it was on one. Ive been in this exact situation with this song and was able to get the info from that vid.
Please help me Obi One Swellnobi, your my only hope!
I am the bone
Oh, that song. It's by the guy, you know him, that guy from that band. Good song.
Everyone loves a challenge. Ehhhhhhhhh eeeeeeee iiiiiiiiii eeyyyhhhhhhhhh is all you have to off :)

From memory, the bands name was a four letter acronym X.X.X.X pretty sure there was a A for audio and V for visual. Something like audio visiual something experiment??
Fucking BOOM Patty, fucking Boom
Could it be, Nick Bone? Should it be??
Jello featuring the guitar stylings of Adelaide's own Charles Tolnay (RIP).
Speaking of which, Snuffy's Bloodloss! The Adelaide years.
That's one brilliant cassette-only release.
And Patrick, beat me to posting something in the Obit thread. A great story of redemption. Vale Steve Hanford, hippy slayer.
Sick song bone. Trying to think what surf vid it was off? I’ve got in my head guys threading Indo tubes while it’s playing? Could be wrong though
"Fucking BOOM Patty, fucking Boom"
I told you it was that guy.
(Congrats on the find, well done)
Jeez, was that it??
Here's a bit of a yarn for yas. Triggered by the track that just came on a playlist. Must have been mid to late last year. Peeling veggies for sunday's roast – switch on the radio in the kitchen that's tuned to local community radio station TLC (The Lower Clarence) FM. Song's playing that's just special. Crackling with a tight energy, guitars talking to eachother, just builds and builds and circles around, a real jam, but driven forward with purpose and intent, then it slows right up, then kicks in again and I just fall in love immediately. Sounds super modern but could be from any era. Felt familiar but couldn't place it. And it goes on for ages. Just fucking heaven. Wait patiently for it to be back-announced after a coupla more tracks but old mate (volunteer announcer) must have pre announced it as first track of that bracket. So I jump on to their facebook page, trying to find out, soon enough someone gets back to me with the number for the station and advice to call when a song's playing so old mate can take the call. Anyway, get through to old mate – who's name escapes me now, and he's a deadset champion, sounds in his 60s or 70s and just loves his music. Anyway, I describe the song and he lets me know, The band's Television and the song is Marquee Moon, and I'm wondering how I'd never heard it before... but I guess I kinda have, given their influence. Anyway, I love the tune for two reasons, 1) it's a fucking great piece of music and 2) the fantastically old-fashioned process of calling up a radio station and asking what the hell that song was...
I'm also wondering how you missed it.
Not tryna be Mr Musical Snob, but it's just one of those ubiquitous songs, makes a lot of 'best of' playlists, comes up in punk/no wave histories, influenced the influencers etc etc.
Hank Rollins doesn't mind it either:
"Wonderful readers, pardon me while I wax euphoric about the simple and complete joy of listening to music from a vinyl source.
As I write to you now, I am listening to a pristine Canadian pressing of Television's absolutely perfect Marquee Moon album. It is, to me, as good as music gets. The title track is one of the best things ever committed to magnetic tape. While the recently remastered CD version is excellent, there is but one way to truly enjoy the utter magnificence of the songs contained on this album and it is from the LP. Those of you who know what I'm talking about know exactly what I mean.
Yes, yes, y'all, it's not hipster, elitist hype — vinyl sounds better. Much better. There is actual music in those grooves. Technically speaking, there is no music whatsoever on a CD. Lots of information but no music. Digital technology has made great strides to deliver a series of numbers to be read by a laser to emit that which is doing its damnedest to replicate its analog and sonically superior master. There are some very good CD players out there that sound incredible. I recommend the Rega Isis valve version, but even that cannot capture the full-bloom soundscape of your turntable interacting with an LP or single.
As an LP spins, your needle goes on the musical journey with you, traveling great distances as it deftly picks up the analog information and delivers the sonic message to you in real time. Vinyl is the people, a CD is the man.
Oh! Do you know that guitar breakdown right before the snare comes back in at the very end of Marquee Moon to end side A? That moment never fails to move me. It just happened. Tom Verlaine, one of the great guitarists of all time. What a moment!"
Haha yeah. Goes to show.... something....
Fuck, I did sound like Mr Musical Snob then, didn't I?
More musical geek... but everyone's a geek about something.
He who hesitates is lost
"Next up on 2SN is a tune especially for the curly-haired fellow from Wooleweyah who last night enquired about the song with the guitar that goes 'bar bar..bar bar' while the rhythm goes 'doodle oodle oddle oo, doodle oodle oddle oo'.
It's Marquee Moon by Television, with Tom Verlaine on vocals and guitar, and Richard Hell on bass. Keep an ear out for the guitar breakdown right before the snare comes back in at the very end of the song. By the way, I'm playing this on vinyl.
It's 4:40, back after this with the news and surf report.
2SN - the hottest on the AM dial"
Cool bananas. 2SN* on this thread, 2GB on the 'Interesting Shtuff' one.
*actually make that 5SN.

Great Aussie noise. Great Aussie flicks.
I saw these women in Melbourne a few years ago. Great, mellow intimate gig, very talented chicks. Easy listening to begin the weekend... and a little bit sexy.
This first song is beautiful and check out the instrument she plays. It starts at 5 minute mark after the interview with them.
Bubba and Rice... a touch of rock in this one.
Songs for the situation...
Nice tunes Patrick.
Love me some beautiful folk music these days, this is a ripper, young First Aiders, one was only fifteen when this was recorded:
Saw and enjoyed My Bubba at Woodford a couple of years back. They gave a bit of background about that instrument, I can't remember much. It's called a Cittra (sp?) and was made in the 19th Century. Those First Aid Kitters are great.
Sub genre :
Looter ska punk.

April 26th, 1992
There was a riot on the streets
Tell me where were you?
You were sittin' home watchin' your TV
While I was participating in some anarchy
First spot we hit it was my liquor store
I finally got all that alcohol I can't afford
With red lights flashin' time to retire
And then we turned that liquor store into a structure fire.
Next stop we hit it was the music shop
It only took one brick to make that window drop
Finally we got our own p.a.
Where do you think I got this guitar that you're hearing today? ey!
Call fire at the mobile station at Alamedas and Anahiem,
Its, ah, flaming up good]

Homicide, never doin' no time!
When we returned to the pad to unload everything
It dawned on me that I need new home furnishings
So once again we filled the van until it was full
Since that day my livin' room's been more comfortable
Cause everybody in the hood has had it up to here
It's getting harder and harder and harder each and every year
Some kids went in a store with their mother
I saw her when she came out she was gettin some pampers
They said it was for the black man,
They said it was for the mexican
And not for the white man
But if you look at the streets
It wasn't about Rodney King
It's bout this fucked up situation and these fucked up police
It's about coming up
And staying on top
And screamin' 187 on a mother fuckin' cop
It's not written on the paper it's on the wall
Smoke from all around!

But sure ....it’s Trump’s fault !
A week or so ago you admitted you didn't know much about Trump. Hadn't heard any of his talks and only read a few articles.
Yet you woke up this morning the complete fan boi?
Im not a fan boy beyond his stance against globalisation and China. I appreciate his sentiments towards making America great again....which American wouldn’t want that ?
I’ve got no real idea on the minutiae of his policies. I’ve heard his environmental stance is real crook etc.
But....none of what is unfolding in the USA is Trump’s fault. This shit is much precedented and an episode is long overdue. The murderous cop was the same bloke under Obama. The drug epidemic which led to the counterfeit bill being handled by the dead fella was happening under Obama. Racial tension happened under Obama .
My point is .....this is standard America.
Just now the Anti-Trumpers think they’ve got some ammunition. They don’t. I’m reading the MSM and they’re painting Trump as a throwback era Klansman cause he said the shooting starts when the looting starts. Now it’s getting really out of control ....you think anything but shooting is going to put a stop to it ? The MSM doesn’t care - nor do the fake left retards - it’s Trump’s fault ....Boo hoo.
You think Joe Biden will quell the rioting with his ever so rational oration ?
You don’t agree ?
But only in the sense, that Trump hasn't even tried - worse, he's incited further division.
Of course America is riven with fractures, which also existed under previous presidents, but all of those past presidents (that I can recall) at least attempted to speak for the nation during times of crisis.
