Next Federal Election

We don’t collect any significant revenue from our resources, we have nothing to develop tertiary industries, housing is an investment strategy instead of productive investment and older generations are relying on future generations working harder and longer to realise investment gains instead of industry that will lift future generations up aswell.Yerp, Australia has had scared shit leaders with a population that bought the lie.
Australia is fucked.
With a decent tax on these companies we could have free university education in the areas where we are lacking and rely on immigration to fill those positions. Why can’t our leaders learn from the country’s that get it right ?

I had a chuckle at the National Service discussion earlier in the month. You actually have to have something to offer young people for their loyalty and patriotism. Instead young people are being increasingly commodified in every aspect of their lives while being punched down upon by those who require them to work harder for longer to live the Aussie dream that is getting harder and harder to achieve.

@ Supa "With a decent tax on these companies we could have free university education in the areas where we are lacking and rely on immigration to fill those positions. Why can’t our leaders learn from the country’s that get it right ?"
Or Supa, I agree with you on the the free University 100%. But Just dont mine the crap out of the land to begin with, Theyre destroying the very thing that we rely on for our sanity and our health. We don't need the gas for our survival. Seems like all natural examples found in local wild places for self sufficiency .. ie living off the land has been lost. But if the energy isn't there to begin with,, We find ways to reduce our spend and adjust accordingly. Business wont have it but, Id be for it.
And what about harnessing the eb and flow of the oceans? The energy is right there, The tides as they rise and fall, the wave energy,, the energy is provided for ,, we just need to harness it by turbines or some other way.. Its there and its free.

Someone should tell government that giving them subsidies isn’t taxing them . I think soggy dog summed it up perfectly. https://australiainstitute.org.au/report/fossil-fuel-subsidies-in-austra...

Malcom Roberts has got back in to the Senate. Bloody Hell has anyone ever taken the time to watch this backward carrot cake in action?
Watch them in Senate Inquiries.
I think One Nation secured another Senator also.
So it’s gone from Hanson and Roberts to 3.

I’m actually gobsmacked that this looney tunes leprechaun got back in…….again. https://www.malcolmrobertsqld.com.au/re-elected-plus-one-nation-increase...

Qld ey, just read Jarrod has cancelled a big already approved wind farm.
Gina is happy.
Forward thinking. :(

I see the Labor faithful have gone quiet on Woodside being granted gas rights until 2070.
It seems the 2050 net zero target was about Labor’s credibility not emissions.
As weak as the Libs were they were upfront about gas…..cheap gas too.
Now , did the Labor party save some for us in the deal ????….shipped to the east coast at a cheap price for our businesses and homes.
Or is it just going to be burnt overseas by everyone else….for their businesses and homes to prosper…..while we pay through the nose for it…and go under.
Strayas a funny place alright.

hey @opti, hope you didn’t spill too much of your ‘94 Penfolds, good drop that.
Yeah, “ … Strayas a funny place alright“ when lowering (not abolishing) a tax concession for super wealthy people can cause so much angst in the media … well, it would be your apocalypse / armageddon scenario in the media if Labor went anywhere near blocking that gas project, and you darn know it. So, not for the first time and nor the last I say too cute @opti !

Your a weird angry man guy frowny …..gas was a.ways going to be in the mix.
Labor just got a heap more votes by bullshitting that it wasn’t.
Something you do too …a lot of…. but not well…
Renewables, with gas then transition to bio gases will be how it goes…
And as it should….we are all doing well with the positive changes.
Bio gas hybrid electric cars the future…they already make them.
Bio gas backup baseload power stations as well.
I’ve just ordered a 20 kw battery for my home….or 15 if the other doesn't fit in the spot…….
AW will be proud of me….
.see Bowen is good for something…..everyone has something to offer….be good if both sides got on and got on with it.
Nuclear is dead the people don’t want it….nats should snap out of it.
Im going DC coupled so I can turn off the main switch.
I’m no longer interested in the power circus ….or feed in … or bonus sell back for heaps or pay to feed in mumbo jumbo sleight of hand con jobs.
I just want off the stupid way we run energy in this country…
No politician makes any sense regarding it.
I’ll have my stand alone electric house and my trusty gas cooker….
A nice blend of both.
An adobe oven outside as well for a bit of old fashioned bread and pizza CO2…
Life’s good… enjoy the ride…..but might not watch the news for a few years….
Seems to be crumbling quickly out there in the big world…
And I’m an old guy in a happy place…..and I like my happy place….its happy here.

A small mercy.

I don’t think the labor government has heard the end of this. Lots of pissed off voters , particularly the younger generation .

^^ blah blah blah, you’re talking at someone who hasn’t had a power bill now for it must be 15 years, got on board at the very start: power generation is one thing but usage is another and is now down to an average of 3.5 kwh per day over the whole year, not bad for Victoria, now go suck on another lemon @opti, bahaha

Australia , the lucky but dumb country . Other countries must look at how we operate and rub their hands together , have we got a deal for you .

G’day @AW, empty nest, draft proofed the existing well designed north facing house, low energy use lighting, appliances, heating and hot water … currently watching the footy no heating on !!
Draft proofing dollar for dollar spent is the best money you can spend

GuySmiley. Hi mate. Good on ya.
Keeping your energy in is always better than trying heat up or cool your place.
Analogously, it’s like us wearing a puff jacket or any other winter warmer.
We generate roughly 37.4c it’s about wearing clothing that prevents the heat from escaping our bodies, it’s not about keeping the cold out.
Preserve what you have and generate your own heat range.
Houses are the same, today I was back at that house in Geelong where last year I did a lot of decking and internal renovations.
In 2023, I was under the house on my back for two weeks fixing 60mm thick 1200x450 polystyrene batts to the underside of the original (1956) hardwood floorboards.
My mate and client has all doors draught proof at the base and surrounds, whilst under the house I squirted in huge volumes of aerosol expanding foam which when used expands three times its volumes and fills the internal wall cavities between the back of the brickwork and the plaster. So many ways to draught proof your home.
Coupled with double glazed windows the house is now a heat sink, we both commented today how warm it is inside without heating.
In the attic above the ceiling rafters we have three layers of batts and polystyrene offcuts (waste from a factory). Heat rarely gets out.
You correctly mentioned, North facing or orientation to the north but what is best is having your house slightly oriented towards NNE.
In addition with time and money you can install a thermal wall in your house that roughly runs North/South and have windows facing to the West sector so as to catch all incoming passive solar radiation.
The wall should be solid and about 300mm thick so it can absorb, hold and then release heat into the house as the day goes by.
It doesn’t take much effort to save the planet and your hard earned.
So good to hear you’ve made the effort to not waste energy. Good stuff..AW
Might as well put this up in the politics subforum, to spare the front page. It's 18 months away or so, but here we go.
This is how Dutton wins:
