I assumed your life was as beige as your posts.
PS You know why Shorten is finally attempting to pull his finger out of his arse and act as though he gives a fuck about the working class ?
Because people like me voted for One Nation .
Hah! Now THAT is the funniest post ever on Swellnet. Or low point? Both?
Shatner - Tell us again about the time you had a couple of schooners and put a lamp shade over your head.
Such amazing memories.
Don't you go self-omitting that Hanson one, Blowie. Own it, brother.
"How it became necessary to destroy the village in order to save it!"
Blowie, did I ever tell you about the time I manicured 1000 pounds of weed in a caravan? Or when my IQ was about the same numerically? I think I did the test in the caravan. Or that time I was Robert Hughes' P.A. on Hey Dad?
We'll always have this though.
I agree 100% with you indo!
It was 107 pounds and it took 2 of us seven weeks full time.
A few sneaky surfs in there of course.
Boranup had incredible banks that year.
Tell me Shatner - Which would you catergorise yourself as : Sanctimonious , Deluded or a Wanker ?
Or D/ all of the above.
can we have a poll to leave the alliance with America?
I'd vote yes to that.
I agree in principle but too many people have been complaining about it so I'd vote no to teach them a lesson.
I'd rather be beige than bullshit. I could pretend to be connected, like you... Have a "legitimate foot" in every pool... Heck.... It's the net... Just make it up... So far, you have "aboriginal friends", so that makes your insight valid.
You have gay relatives, that makes your insight to this topic valid
You have asian friends.
Muslim friends, in your own words a U.N of friends
AND, you have a bunch of friends in the S.A.S!!!!
Blowin circa 2016;
"I just had a cheerful breakfast with a virtual UN of mates .... 6 different nationalities represented"
"I just got back from a foreign country , getting waves with my brown skinned, Asian mates"
"My SAS mates aren't anywhere near here"
Fuck, man....... Hate to see your FB page...... "4286 friends"
If we had a thread on silk worms, There'd be Blowin, telling us all we know jack shit, coz his "kashmiri mate" he was just talking to set him straight about the silk worm trade back in 2003, waaaaay before silkworm farming was even trendy.
Beige, or bullshit?
Never saw Richie Benaud in a cow pattie suit.
Sheepy can't believe that I know a few Indos and some of them are Muslims.
Or that I know a couple of crew in the army.
Or that I've met people from different countries.
Or that my brother is gay .
Or that I know a few blackfellas after living on and off in North West WA for a couple of decades.
Such unbelievable , exotic stories.
Got to be bullshit , heh ?
Sheepy and Shatner - wishing I sat around in the same small town for year after year . Meeting no one , going no where and doing nothing.
Too much world to see.
How's copywriting for the Gippsland Inbred Weekly working out , Sheepy ?
Keep up SD, Blowie don't do Facebook. Or any other social media 'dross'.
Swellnet is his go-to for any social media needs. He told us.
"Some people like to paint , some like to bat off....I enjoy both and I also enjoy adding my two cents worth on the forums. I don't do Facebook, or Instagram or any of that dross so it's a great way to stay social whilst I'm in some other prick's home town."
Again, I dunno what the difference is between spending an inordinate, inordinate time on here or on the "dross" social media sites (well, apart from there being mates and acquaintances and family and shit on the social media sites...it's kinda the point), but hey, if it floats your boat, Blowie, so be it.
Now how's that old classic go (Seppo's fave film)?
And so I'm ronery
A little ronery
Poor rittre me
There's nobody I can rerate to
Feer rike a bird in a cage
It's kinda sihry
But not rearry
Because it's fihring my body with rage
Team Australia, fuck yeah!
AEC reports 20% or 3 million Aussies refuse to vote....Of that 50% of youth don't vote .
Each vote is worth $265 to Libs & all . A wedge issue is known to increase enrolment.
AEC needed a break thru- up steps affordable new A.P. CEO to deliver the goods.
This prototype could bag Libs up to $2.5 m at the next ballot,if said youth enrol & vote.
All our fellow corrupted compulsory voting nations would be proud of us.
This Postal Ballot is said to be Double Majority!
Meaning first an OZ majority then second count disqualifies N.T. & A.C.T. voters.... Rip Off!
More older & closer you get to Canberra... enrolment rises over 99% (Big Brother or what?)
Back to Second Majority... 4 of 7 states are also needed for a majority to pass 'Referendum.
LNP cattle barons need only hand out meat trays in Tassie/W.A./S.A. and queers bugger off.
The NO group gains equal funds for much diminished voting onus.
The YES campaign never secures funds reflecting increased voting bias.
Change is always hard fought.
Brave kid asks dad for keys to the letter-box..."What for Son! Your not one of those are ya ?"
Postal Vote Generation, held up in their bedrooms. Poor souls never got to the post box.
Parents,Lifeline,Police & Ambo's now loading up for MALCOLM'S OZ-WIDE COMING OUT .
After dual citizen stuff-up! PM outta check if gays can legally vote or stand for parliament?
No that wasn't a joke! Pauline Pantsdown for the Golden Gaytime Gala Countown.
Anyone who's followed the debate for years at the guardian would have seen pages and pages of vitriol and hate. And most of it ain't coming from the supposed haters.
Many have pulled their heads in post brexit/trump as the actual realities of the world have imploded their insular bubble, but the damage was already done. Like the value of goodwill one pays for when buying a shop, it's negligent new owner only notices when it's too late.
Indod is spot on saying there should be about five questions in this ludicrous waste of money.
And while blowin doesn't need anyone to defend him, his life really is not that hard to believe. There are literally loads of dudes living it up in Indo with very similar experiences to him .
I'm not one of them. I'm the povvo cunt down the road in the bamboo shack, that never trimmed weed, or did the mines. Wondering how the lobster tastes, how the air-con feels, and what it's like to have a bottomless carton of bintang....lamenting certain life choices....but living it up nonetheless...
@sypkan, do you think Brexit, Trump and our One Nation is a political movement that will be sustained beyond one or two election cycles? If so would love to hear your views on it.
"Anyone who's followed the debate at the guardian would have seen pages and pages of vitriol and hate. And most of it ain't coming from the supposed haters."
And the EXACT OPPOSITE is playing out on the pages of The Australian and the Daily Telegraph so your point is?
Here's a clue: What you read isn't the whole debate.
@ GuySmiley not the same names, but i think people who support or voted for these people/things often in the form of a protest vote did so mainly as a result of the push for globalisation and the negative effects seen by globalisation, i can't see peoples attitudes changing towards that, i think the moderate left parties will move closer to the moderate right on this issue.
No I don't think it will be sustained much more than one or two cycles guysmiley...but that really depends how you guys play it, and with respect (because I do respect you) youse ain't playing it so well...so far...
I hate to harp on about the US because clearly it annoys so many, but I recently had access to cable TV, while no big deal for most aussie it would appear, it was new to me. To watch the way the CNN reporters carried on about every little detail of trump and brexit was a real eye opener. Calling him out for being a liar (too true) whilst totally ignoring the several - make that many - times they were legitimately caught out peddling 'fake news' was just flabbergasting. Literally people are living in parallel universes.
While citing Blowin won't win me any friends, he is right saying shorten has freaked about the one nation effect, as has turnball. Sheepdog's stats might be right, but what has changed now is how people openly talk about one nation, and the acceptance of their ideas (andym, indod) while I doubt few like andym will follow through on their threats and interest, there is a momentum that is dangerous (to some) and refreshing to others.
The answers are so fucking obvious to me, but politician's don't listen to people like me (so cliché I know). The system is so skewed towards academia, focus groups and the like. Focus groups would have to be the dumbest investment a political party could make, skewed samples, bias leading questions. Lobby groups, media bias, dodgy polls, reactionary tweaking whilst trying to change nothing. it's all so fucking obvious, but the system is so entrenched in itself it cannot change quick enough to catch up in the internet age...like turning a tanker.
I hate to blow my own trumpet, but politicians really need to talk to people like me, not the union's token woolworths member, or some labour hating small business guy. But the system is so caught up in itself it never does.
Fuck I would do it for free. Pay me $20 bucks an hour and I'll even use punctuation!!
I'm joking (kind of) because there's heaps of crew on here with good ideas, but they're usually too busy managing their own lives to get involved, or they're so repulsed by it all they never would. And if they ever got involved they would become instantly biased too. This is the thing. Anyone in the system is so biased they cannot see the forest for the trees. Another cliché, but you guys that I stir frustrate the hell out of me. Youse are clearly intelligent but you've missed the whole thing. Just like the media, they've missed the whole fucking thing. If I was that incompetent I'd lose my job. Another perceived or legitimate injustice, just like the gfc. Yet both sides are pushing more status quo.
Sorry off track. My mate (an academic, well professional anyway) a left leaning one, pretty much showed what's going on the other day, whilst watching bolt on my newly acquired cable. Saying bolts criticisms of the left were pretty spot on. Finishing with, but why are all the right wings dudes so fucked up?
So in short guysmiley. One or two cycles if the left develops the ability for self reflection. I'm losing hope for that day by day. The right wing dudes are totally unpalatable but the left is off with the fairies. Real world problems, real world solutions. Enough with the fucking ideals , and dated (not working) principles.
Over to you....
Both sides should be civil
Internet politics has killed civility
It's all perspective stunet and you are biased!!!
We all are, the left comes across as more hypocritical because you preach peace love and fairies but spew bile.
The right accepts (and relishes in) human nature. Youse are both fucked up to the objective observer...but one side is currently appearing more fucked up...you work it out...
"...because you preach peace love and fairies "
Just like Che Guevara.
Dunno how many times I have to say left wing is politics not language you never seem to get the memo.
Ha ha fucking hell, Seppo. 'Gish gallop' on ice!
Good luck unpacking all that!
Blowie come back. All is forgiven.
Not forgotten but.
And so it continuses ...
It's all about perception
That's to both of you
As Sean Connery once said: here endeth the lesshon.
Actually Seppo, that latest series of sprays was very insightful. Not how you think or intended, but insightful nonetheless.
I'll get back to that.
Don't you stop galloping.
Syppo, don't know if you're having a lend but at what stage did I accept the ideas of One Nation??
About the only thing I said was that we need to have a think about the levels of immigration. And also,
" I doubt few like andym will follow through on their threats and interest"
- what does this mean?
Shit, while we're at it, I can see Blowin's point (somewhere around here).
It can be argued that if people like him didn't do the PHON protest vote then the two major parties wouldn't have go the wake-up call they did, leading to (it seems) something of a swing back towards the centre.
Andy, have a re-think and re-examination of the so-called One Notion effect on the major parties (LNP in particular) and the wider political discourse. Now and first time round.
A move to the 'centre'? Really? Howard moved there?
And apart from the fact that One Notion pretty much rubber stamps anything the LNP puts up now, how is the LNP moving away from them and not just appropriating and placating as per usual?
This 'protest vote effect' as legitimation for siding with Hanson is bullshit. A smokescreen.
Who voted for Clive Palmer again? Remember him?
Fong, I have deleted your new forum thread. Comment like that again and you'll be banned.
I'm talking recently, last six months or so. I'm saying that the majors can see the writing on the wall as part of a worldwide pattern.
Obviously there's been far-right stuff popping up all over the world as a populist reaction to the failures of neoliberalism etc etc and I'm saying the the mainstream centre-right are under pressure to reign it in and are making noises to that effect.
The pressure of far right populism hasn't been the sole reason for this apparent change of heart but I think it's part of it.
You're right, PHON has been brought to heel (again) but the LNP and Labor realise that if it's not One Nation then it's independents or whoever.
And I agree, there are better avenues of doing a "protest vote" than One Nation.
Bye Bye fongy
Just remember fong - I love you man.
"Wow. Sheepy can't believe that I know a few Indos and some of them are Muslims.
Or that I know a couple of crew in the army."
Yep.... I dont believe you. But you'll live.
I stopped believing you back in late 2015, when you told us all that your SAS mates were explaining operational matters to you. I called you out at the time, as did quite a few others. You went dead quiet and bailed for a week or 2. But I never forgot that one. You see, SAS soldiers are sworn to secrecy, and don't even discuss operational matters with their wives. So they aren't gonna sit around with "I got buddies everywhere", and spill the beans on Afghanistan or Iraq.
It was at that point, that I knew you full of it.
But hey, you still do write entertaining fiction sometimes. So dont give up your passion.
Sheepy - Explaining operational matters ?
I said they liked their jobs !
Shatner - You can tell yourself that the politicians of Australia haven't altered their behaviour due to global variations of the protest vote .
But of course you're utterly incorrect and pretty much any political assessment will confirm it .
Or do you think that the majors are trying to create the impression of reform due to your continual and unwavering dedication to the Beige Lifestyle Party ( BLP) .
BLP motto - If I didn't see it on TV , then it didn't happen.
@sypkan, its all happening at the swellnet's front desk today .....
Both Brexit and Trump were non-conplusary votes and there is a fair bit of buyers remorse with both. Large numbers of young voters didn't bother with Brexit and in the US if the Republican gerrymanders don't get you than low voter turn outs will. No doubt Clinton ran a poor campaign and Trump capitalised. The tribe had spoken in both cases.
The full implications of Brexit are still being nutted out but England would not want Scotland and Ireland staying in the EU if England leaves, a united kingdom no more. Likely a soft Brexit with limitations on immigration but that will do nothing to help the mostly non-London areas of the UK with jobs and from the economic collapse/hangover that was Thatcher and neo-liberalism. Enter Corbyn and the potential for the re-emergence of more left of centre policies.
The same issues exist in the US and no matter what Trump says about saving jobs they aren't coming back in a country where basic medical cover is seen as socialism. Trump is a wildcard and anything is possible but the early test will be next year's mid term elections. If polls show increasing resentment against Trump and the Republicans nearing those elections than Congress will attempt to soften all the impacts as we are already seeing with the Republican dominated houses refusing to pass his health care bill in all its versions of flatten, scorch and burn Obamacare down. I see Trump as a one termer.
Pauline, her current numbers in parliament are only courtesy of Turnbull's double dissolution election (special DD rules allowed her to get more people elected) so I see her loosing ground next time. While Pauline might loose numbers its possible other cellar dwelling independent senators will get up ... will be interesting for PM Shorten.
Got together with a group of almost a dozen Indonesians today pretty much a 50/50 mix of Christians and Muslims although none very fanatical most still drink in moderation etc and none wear hijab's (in Australia well never have seen them wear one) but the Christian ones might wear a cross or go to Church at Christmas and most of the Muslim ones still fast during ramadan.
Interestingly when the conversation of same sex marriage came up all pretty much shared the same view of not caring too much either way and thinking it was all a bit of a joke but if voted would vote No
I guess it's probably a cultural thing more than anything, funny actually i think those that call themselves Christians or Muslims actually share a lot more in common than most people realise, and certainly more likely to vote conservatively.
It's actually quite interesting because they are all very different from different areas of Indonesia and different class levels but like i said 50/50 mix of Christian and Muslims and all get on fine.
Only time i really think oh yeah he or she is muslim is if there is a pork dish as the muslim people won't go anywhere near it, Indonesian Christians on the other hand love pork.
It keeps coming back to the same point, ' why should people have a say in how others live their lives when it doesn't affect theirs'?
Only a cunt would vote no.
My picture of Abbott at a sausage sizzle will not load ....... ???
That shirt is fucking awesome
I just meant one nation are a protest vote against high migration andym and you mentinned it's fair enough. It is.
Guysmiley all that may be true, and personally I have a lot of reservations about brexit but as stated in an article I recently posted, if it wasn't for brexit giving certainty on migration Corbyn wouldn't have gotten close at all.
I don't give a fuck about trump, and how long he lasts, shorter the better. but if politician's don't start listening he will not be the last trump and this larger movement your concerned about will win.
It's fucking disgusting that the Democrats have teamed with up with neocons to shut him out. ..fucking neocons? Seriously,?
As to buyers remorse. The only thing lower than trumps approval rating is the Democrat's. Something all you never trumpers never acknowledge.
As to the economy and migration. Fuck that shit. That is what has made australia and other countries totally unaffordable for their inhabitants. Time for a smarter economy.
Plus this idea comes across really dumb from people like you and blind boy who are constantly harping on about climate change. Blind boy constantly saying 'read the report!" Yet falling to accept that major recommendations talk about the growth model. I know your average Joe is ignorant to this shit, but a heap of us 'leftys' are not
I didn't always feel this way, but it's fucked everything, and the wider lefty agenda is worn out
And just to add to yesterday's post my mate is an academic and doesn't just lean left he would proudly identify as socialist. More than I can say for many on here
But you get him going on social issues and he would agree with me all the way bagging the left, but would vote yes to ssm. You get him going on aboriginal issues and he offends me bagging the left.
That's not an easy task!
Also been hanging with a hawaiian, heading home to trim for the last big year before legalisation ruins his little money spinner. Resort owner down the road is doing the same, and he ain't even American. So yeh lots of shit happens when you're not living a sheltered existance
And FWIW. Trump actually believes in universal health cover. It's appeasing the right nut jobs in his party that is proving difficult.
If Democrats weren't so obstructionist - something they vehemently bagged the republicans for for 8 years - stuff might work. But nope, we're in political polar land, where schoolyard fleeting friendships are more important than serving the country. Very similar in Oz.
Many things he's a Democrat, but the left don't wanna talk about that
it's unfortunate he got elected but it's a sign of the times. When it takes a reality TV star to cut through the cosyness of the political media class...the Washington consensus if you will
Stop the resistance, it's dumb. Its futile, and if you include the term 'the resistance' its the a manufactured political movement - the opposite of a 'movement' . deal with the issues that have been bubbling away for a long time
Shutting them down with political correctness has just fuelled resentment
"A generation lost to identity politucs" John pilger
a vehement lefty socialist nut job...my kind of guy!
When a president has control on both the senate and congress how it the democrats fault he can't get anything through? Maybe there is more swamp on the republicans side given that they are worried about losing office at the mid terms
If the postal plebiscite goes ahead, then you need to make sure that the AEC (Australian Electoral Commission) has your postal address correct ASAP, and obviously you need to be registered on the electoral roll to vote. To register, or check your enrolment details: https://check.aec.gov.au
@Sypo "I hate to blow my own trumpet, but politicians really need to talk to people like me, not the union's token woolworths member, or some labour hating small business guy. But the system is so caught up in itself it never does."
I agree completely. The whole system is full of self-centered narcissistic shit bags carrying endless party baggage that just can't be shaken. The "community" minded federal MP is now a thing of the past. No doubt there are those that do care about their electorate but its almost mandatory that as soon as they receive that front-bench promotion they also sign a non-disclose agreement and also hand over their souls. Classic example would be Penny Wong voting against gay marriage.
Landlords /Real Estate Agents and Building Managers are empowered dead letter collectors.
All now voting their asses off ...gifted more corrupted power now at postal ballot.
Making no secret of laughing at dumbass junkmail scam... 5 /10/20 votes who's counting....
Now does Trueblue let it slide or tick 'n'post previous tennants ballot paper? Price is right!
I got a feeling in my waters that this could well be our very own piss-poor 'Brexit/Trump' moment.
Abbott and the no-no gang are certainly framing it that way, what with all the 'freedom of speech/PC gone mad' bollocks.
Would it surprise anyone if they 'won'?
I also think, either way, our flim-flam venture capitalist PM is cooked.
For an allegedly smart fella, he's not real good at this 'politics game', is he?
I don't reckon it's in any way similar to Trump or Brexit.
People are smart enough to seperate politics from the issue of same sex marriages.
It should get up pretty easily for a yes , but if it doesn't it'll just be a reflection of the residual disfavour that some still feel about homosexuality.
Despite the massive steps that we're making towards becoming a more enlightened society , some people just don't approve of homosexuality.
From the people that I know that are against it , it's not even hated or bigotry . Just general distaste .
Then there's the religious vote. Strange as it may seem to you and I that it's even remotely relevant in 2017 , many still live their lives around the bible.
I'll simply repeat what I said earlier in this thread, re' the no voters making this about "the children"
"If these zealots believe having children is a vital part of marriage, then they should be protesting vigorously every time a pair of single heterosexual divorcees remarry in their 50s. A heck of a lot of divorced boomers remarry. My dad, bless him, remarried in his early 60s, to a lovely English woman in her late 50s. The marriage was about love, companionship. A priest married them. Absolutely no chance of children...
Using the "children" argument to be against ssm is pathetic. Pure conflation to mask homophobia."
