Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

Awesome Facto, seriously.

Often (for me) it takes years and a gentle nudge that something you see or hear in your past for you to realise the significance of it in the present.

That kind of day

He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun.

On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls he often wondered
With the secrets of the worlds.

And his subjects
gathered 'round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see.

And the women all were beautiful
And the men stood
straight and strong
They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on.

Hate was just a legend
And war was never known
The people worked together
And they lifted many stones.

They carried them
to the flatlands
And they died along the way
But they built up
with their bare hands
What we still can't do today.

And I know she's living there
And she loves me to this day
I still can't remember when
Or how I lost my way.

He came dancing across the water
Cortez, Cortez

Reminds me of a day/night out in Byron with a couple of reprobates.
First stop was the Beachie, about midday, mellow kind of day.
Standing at the bar when I sense something was amiss. I glance sideways and see the this fucking pair had their cocks out and were pissing against the bar.
Security saw the wangs in the breeze but missed the pissing, regardless, we were shown the door.
Next stop The Northern. From memory there were stolen drinks, drinks tipped over heads and general arse-clownery.
Thrown out.
Off to the Rails. Word had got around now so these two stooges couldn't even get in the door.
I distanced myself then headed in for a few drinks and a squizz at the band and the chicks.
Came out a few hours later to see a rolling scuffle down the main street with my two buddies and a pack of parkies.
Absolute heathens.

If Antonio ever wrote a book it would be a best seller.
Lines with Bryan Brown, shagging Mimi McPherson and more shenanigans than most people could fit into three lifetimes.
And all from a bald guy with a beer gut and a very modest pecker.

Zappa still remains an enigma to me. All those 7/8 time signatures, oblique references, and path of most resistance tempo changes I find offputting. That said, I've got an old Zappa, Beefheart LP out in the shed that I plan to dig out soon. Might do some further digging on Spotify/Pandora. https://get-mobdro.com and https://get-tubemate.com

1919/20 Dardanella was a #1 Surf Pier Tune that sold a mental 6.5m copies
Brilliant Seaside Video & Recording...ostinato bass the precursor to Boogie Woogie.
The song rolls & refreshes whimsical waves of joy with surprisingly modern sound.

Plenty covered the tune thereafter & with words > tune went thru a quiet patch.

Next tbb introduces Swedish Surf Band The Spotnicks to a younger crew.
1961 Spoticks had a #1 in Oz "Orange Blossom Special" (First Oz Link)
1963 "Moonshot"

1963 "Last Space Train"

Ok! This worldly well respected Swedish band puts out some cool '60's tunes.
You'll never hear so many sweet gear changes thru tracks! (Spotniks are as smooth as!)

(Dedication) Band played up until 2019 then sadly 2 members died early this year.
Around 1976 -77 (Can't be sure of date) as this odd song appears on comp's.
This song sounds like a 1980's Mental as Anything Instrumental (Oz link 2)

The band's odd sound appeals to Australians...the very reason tbb wishes to share.
It''s also how & why tbb delved into their back catalogue, sniffing for such gems!
Crew would know that the Swedes hide some good shit! (re: Atomic Swing!)

1920 Dardanella by '1960's Swedish surf band's chilled out 1970's Mental Mix .
Results in the most perfectly mental tune with the coolest stoner surf sound.
No word of a lie..tbb promises a weirded out Mental as Anything Surf Instrumental.

Here's the kicker...this ultra stoned Surf Instrumental is now 100 yrs old. (Far Out!)

The song structure was 100 years ahead of it's time...the texture is impossibly cool.
Yep! You're right! It sounds like it was recorded yesterday...a truly priceless gem.

Vale the Spotnicks!
tbb spoils the crew with a rare deluxe treat!

Returning with The Makarrata Project, their first new LP in 18 years, Midnight Oil have hit #1 on the ARIA chart.

Use to love the Oils as a grommet but they should have stopped after Blue Sky Mining, everything after that is crap and tacky/cringy including this, seriously how many times can they use the novelty of indigenous people & culture to sell records, especially when they rarely if ever touch on issues that affect every day indigenous people, okay they did the whole thing well with Diesel & dust but should have just left it at that..

Anyway personally i think their best stuff was the less political or less in your face politically like Head Injuries and Place without a postcard, 1 to 10 was obviously more political some of those lyrics havent aged that great, but it was good musically.

BTW. Just listened to that OMG total cringe lyrics

10-1 was their best album imo.

And their concert at the Sydney Entertainment Centre (recently constructed) coinciding with the release of that album was the first concert I went to without adult supervision. I'm guessing '83.

The majority of my post are on topic the majority of fakeos post are complete and utter trolls.

Had this profile name since day one and have nothing to hide.

Fakeo has had about half a dozen profiles often posting during same period even on reply to each other, and super cagey.

BTW. Zen is probably the most respected guy here, pretty neutral but not a fence sitter, still tells it how it is, just some how remains postive even with all the BS here.

Indo, you fairly consistently & deliberately go on fishing expeditions. You even admit it from time to time. It’s subtle trolling, the worst kind, particularly when it’s denied. Here’s the kicker though, you cry like a baby when other people troll but it’s just a bit of fun when you do it. Grow up mate & own it.

There is a huge difference between a little niggling and banter and just out right abuse/ insults especially when its endlessly done.

Its more annoying than anything and just brings the whole quality of the forums down, who wants another forum that is like beach grit or that other crappy website(forgot the name)

“There is a huge difference between a little niggling and banter and just put right abuse/ insults especially when its endlessly done.”

Have you ever given any thought as to why you cop the abuse? I’m not justifying it but maybe, just maybe, it’s because of your subtle trolling act.

BTW Indo, quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality when it comes to sharing your opinions.

The reality is these forums are dominated by left leaning views, i have no idea why as its not a reflection of anywhere else I've come across, even the views under Swellnet articles and Swellnet FB post are much more diverse. (Sometimes to much for even me)

Anyway if you don't tow the popular line here you will get hammered, that's just how it is, its not just me that cops it, others do, and often worse than i do.

Its all good as long as people play the ball and not the man, but a few posters here rarely play the ball and only play the man.

Indo, your views are so fraught with misinformation and flawed logic, it's a little tricky to actually play the ball. People try to explain things to you in a reasonable manner with facts and evidence, pesky things I know, yet you just put your head in the sand. I don't know if it's willful ignorance or what.

Rightio boys, the topic is Tunes I believe. Great work by TBB digging up the Spotnicks, up there with the best spacesuits in a filmclip ever.
Local musos who are channeling the same theme:

and some more tunes by Blake Scott, with the Peep Tempel and without.

He is a wonder Hiccups. Sparse springs to mind and his solo stuff is quite a development from the Peeps.
And returning to some themes that were running a while back - covers and banjos, I apologise in advance.....
