There must be some way to get to Indonesia this year? Can you jump on a boat from Darwin? Can you fly there on the pretense of something other than surfing? Gotta be something...
Anyone figured out a way to get over there yet?
Forecast from this Friday...
Hard to look at from Tasmania with a continuing run of average surf, water temps now hitting proper winter levels, and a weather forecast of multiple single-digit days.
I would have been two weeks in to a 3 month stay by now.
The Youtube algorithm served up one of those Bali “ day in the life “ style shots which showed Balangan looking very appealing . It just made me sad.
I think I understand why crew who are into Instagram get so bummed.
Nice to think that some spots are getting a reprieve from crowds though. So many people around here that it’s a bit impressive really. Luckily it’s not the hardcore surf crowd so the waves are still mostly empty.
Report from Bali - Bukit roads almost as busy as before Corona Virus
70 plus Euro types surfing at Balangan.
I saw a post that one of the G-land camps is set to reopen. Not sure if it will actually get off the ground or whether there's anyone in Bali that would be wanting to head across.
Kandui Resort opened....to two people. Expats living in Bali who still had to undergo various tests before travelling. The resort had a checklist for domestic travel within in Indonesia. It didn't sound easy.
@Udo....I've been hearing different reports from Ulu, Padang, Bingin etc.
Yeah my mates have said the same Udo. None of them spending a dime though. Huge cohorts of Russians who refused to get on the two mercy flights their government organised and have instead stayed on - many to bargain, beg and steal their time through Covid. Every week a new viral video goes through Bali social media of foreigners getting caught stealing from supermarkets, lining up for food relief, and begging for cash. The dropshippers and other internet capitalists are still hanging on, selling iPhone cables and backscratchers via Facebook, or peddling strange cultish training programs online. Even worse, surf industry pests have been posting about new land acquisitions for “surf resorts” in other parts of the country - buying up land for bargain prices when the economy is tanking. All a bit grim if you think about it too much!
where the fuck do all these eurokooks come from?
There was a million of the cunts around today and last swell.
I've realised crowds are not anathema to them, they seek them out. Crowds are validation.
If any euro kook here could explain the psychology I would be seriously grateful.
There's 80 people out surfing sideshore 3ft dribble point surf....;lets paddle out in a group of 6 and join them, great idea.
Surf Industry carpet baggers. Christ, that's not what the world needs right now.
"angry online, smiley in the brine"
Whoa..whats Jim Banks gonna make of the Sept 11 th date for opening
DPS still accepting flights from China ?
How in the fucken fuck have they become a permanent presence on the surf scene in Bali (and no doubt soon to be in other parts of Indo)???
Jeeez.......I'm almost glad I've probably only got a couple of Indo trips left in me.....
Stu that forecast is seriously depressing viewing. I was so committed to flying over for an Outside Corner swell or two this season. This damn virus...
Got the money for flights saved already and everything. And more importantly the okay from the missus.
Oh well, always 2023 I s'pose ;-0
Forrest Gump,Prince Charles and MP for Dickson, minister of home affairs Peter Dutton have already survived COVID!?Without a vaccine??
How tuff are those softcock's?
And we can't go a surf trip?
I worry about Dengue(no vaccine),
Malaria(2015 vacinne?= Mosquirix,4 injections very low efficacy),
S.T.D's from P.A.M.'s or A.T.M's
C.B.D's wearing P.P.E's.......etc.etc
The existential quandary is do i back myself/immune system and go surf or die trying?.
Jeez i miss living with my mum or brothers house and only paying a case of beer a week for rent. no lease or mortgage to worry about and being able to go for 6 months or longer. Now ihave enough to go for six months but have a lease that expires in october and too much household items to put in storage.
Looks like ill have to put up with Jakes point red bluff and gnaraloo instead.
Oh yeah and an indonesian friend of mine reckons his cousin will be able to get me a visa for working in his surf camp. Doesnt pay much 1 million rupes per week. enough to buy some smokes but not enough to pay my rent back here in Australia.
Anyone interested in becoming a surf guide in the mentawais?
Some bahasa needed and preferably surfs pretty good. backhand and forehand in waves of consequence
camp is near rags right and thunders.
Scoot Flight out Perth... Singapore bound tonight..
Haha. Is that Mendi’s camp?
There's camps as far South as Rags now???
Marius and benny tores run the camp. only six beds at the camp for tourists but will increase over time.
Is the camp at another wave nearby? But none of those mentioned above?
A few years ago, myself and a mate stayed in a village out there with a local guy. Really nice guy who had plans of building a surfcamp out there to generate income for the local village. Fair enough. Good on him. Myself and mate weren't interested in helping due to our own selfish interests.
Anyway, turns out he didn't need our help and a few years later had set the camp up.
Haven't been back to see it in person but I assume its the same camp.
At the airport, pick up your eucalyptus-based “antivirus necklace” that the Agriculture Ministry Syahrul Yasin Limpo claims prevent COVID-19 transmission.
some good news...Melb in lockdown so should thin out the crowd over the next 6 weeks
gotta look on the bright side vicbloke.
plenty of big swell on the way too for those inclined...
Simba you’d hate to be sailing from South Africa to Oz at the moment
yeah Goofy be a rough ride ,cant remember seeing yellow blobs on this before.......
Rough but quick.
I think a lot of Indonesia is missing Australia not just because of money but companionships. We have always been the most gracious travelers.
(Aside from Bali bogans as I’ve said before and pack hunters from the goldy and Sydney)
oops I gave away to much again. Post edited. Keep it quiet fellas. Me thinks the hipsters with there neck beards and finless boards who think Torren Martin is king will be watching. Enjoy another boutique beer you muppets.
Although in saying that it would be funny to watch them get rolled over the reef surfing there 7ft single fin without a leggie haha haha.
The best thing is placing yourself somewhere where this is no internet. Free yourself from the constant updates and open your eyes to the world around you. Turn off Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and the rest of that rubbish. Enjoy life without staring at a screen.
Also a lot of alcoholic surfers love indo. Me included.

Agree with that, i enjoy that factor.
Please Stunet give me an ignore button for Talking Turkey, Shatners Basoon, Dale Cooper, Factotum, Pupkin, and any new fake profile he decides to create.
Yeah Indo, looking around (wife included) so much social media addiction everywhere. I have whats app and swellnet and still dont have enough hours in my day, cant imagine how worrying about what everyone else is claiming they are doing might be a time waster (and head fucker). The new generation are open for some serious let downs in life .
On the Indonesia thread , I am missing the annual trip to Gland though (especially with the forecasts ATM) ahhhh!
Funny you whom post the most are now saying'i luv it wen there no internet!'
Why’s that funny?
It’s a relief from our addiction.
You can live properly for a while without worrying what the rest of the world is doing, and sometimes it takes not being able to access it to be able to do it with a relaxed mind.
Im addicted to technology and the net, but i do hate being addicted to it, i really wish we could go back to a time with no internet. (mobile phones would be okay if no internet)
When I'm somewhere super remote where i cant even use social media i do kind of love it, i just dont have any choice, and then when i do go online weeks latter, it doesn't actually take me long to catch up on emails and i dont really care to all the social media or general news I've missed or all the babble posted on Swellnet etc.
Pumping on the Bukit this morning..
a great week of waves, waiting patiently for a miracle
This morning at 7.39 am Scott Morrison opened with international travel restrictions advice finally being eased. Normal fights will resume at some of Australia's favourite surfing destinations such as Indonesia and Hawaii, with regular carriers committing to full flight schedule and no quarantine required on arrival or departure for both countries. The prime minister has advised of the move to come into place immediately.
Alan Joyce CEO of Qantas group has welcomed the move and emphasised priority business class seating to be discounted by 80% for the next 24 months with dingin Bintangs on ice during take off and landing free for all travelling guests
Joko Wikodo, president of Indonesia has welcomed the decision quoting that during this difficult time, "Priority will be given to all incoming Australian airline carriers to Ngurah Rai International Airport and all Australian passport passengers will be granted a 90 day free extension visa on arrival and free transfers to neighbouring islands of their choice courtesy of Garuda Airlines".
Wish that was true but obviously just trolling
A google of most recent articles finds this one from yesterday a much different realistic story.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has shared a grim forecast for overseas travel, despite Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg pointing to a border reopening in January 2021.
Speaking to A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw on Thursday, Mr Morrison said he has no plan in place for how Australians will be able to travel overseas should there be no vaccine developed for coronavirus.
“That will be very challenging,” Mr Morrison said of overseas travel.
“Right now the opportunity for large-scale travel beyond our borders is not foreseeable.”
Mr Morrison’s comments came just hours after Mr Frydenberg dropped a big clue in the economic update on Thursday that he expects international air travel to resume and Australia’s borders to reopen on January 1, 2021.
While the Treasurer stressed that no policy decisions had been made, the assumptions on international borders lifting were based around when the Federal Government predicted some COVID-19 restrictions could begin to be eased.
“From 1 January to 30 June 2021, it is assumed that the travel ban is lifted, but that a two-week quarantine period is required of arrivals to Australia,” the statement says. “This leads to the resumption of arrivals by temporary and permanent migrants, but at lower levels overall than normal,’’ the Treasury document states.
Mr Frydenberg said that opening of borders gradually would primarily be for international students to return back to Australia, and would still require the 14-day mandatory quarantine for arriving travellers.
“In terms of the borders, the assumptions are that it very gradually starts to come back, that the quarantine is applied, that you start potentially bringing in some international students,” he said.
Mr Morrison said that while he couldn’t put a date on wider international travel, he expected a bubble between New Zealand and Australia to be launched by the year’s end.
“I would hope and expect that before the end of the year, New Zealand and Australia would be able to agree on a safe travel zone,” he said in the ACA interview.
“Prime Minister Ardern and I were only talking about it last week and she remains as committed to that as I do. We are progressing that … and there are many Pacific nations equally that want to be able to be part of that.
“Discussions that I had with the Japanese PM Shinzō Abe … they are keen to see safe travel (between nations) so we will adjust and we can adjust.”
Mr Morrison’s comments come as New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she would prioritise travel arrangements with other countries before Australia.
Instead of Australia as a first option, Ms Ardern is now giving first dibs to the COVID-free Cook Islands, which form part of the Realm of New Zealand in the Pacific, along with Tokelau and Niue.
“It’s clear to us that opening up with Realm countries, keeping in mind they are New Zealand passport holders, will come before any opening up with Australia,” Ms Ardern told Newshub.
The Cook Islands has been pushing for a travel bubble with New Zealand, with its Deputy Prime Minister Mark Brown saying earlier this month he’d had “encouraging” discussions with New Zealand authorities on the subject."
My wife’s fb reminded her this morning that this time last year we were in South Korea, with a missile sailing over our heads, and in the middle of what became a country hopping bender. 6 countries in 5 days, would you believe!? You’ll be happy to know I sank beers in 4 of them. What a pub crawl. How times have changed.
I’m pretty optimistic about this Oxford Uni vaccine doing enough, combined with a couple others that are doing well, to kick off a good year early in 2021
Hope so, starting to get cabin fever.
Or hometown fever at the very least.
Don’t worry about Indo, sail to Fiji!https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-14/families-trading-winter-for-fi...
Classic - Scomo has "no plan in place".
And Bucky Beaver across the ditch is giving first dibs to "countries" like the Cook Islands.
Cheers and have a great day.
