Indeed I agree things are not as they seem . You only have to look at who bankrolled Bruce & how the fark did he at 23 , become a senior adviser to Minister for defence Senator Reynolds ? He had been around the liberal party halls since he was 18 , originally born in Texas USA and didn’t hold any degrees as he was a “ bit lazy “ , his words not mine .

The same type of people that watched Charlie Kirk’s farewell turned in to a MAGA rally. The same type of people that thought his widow’s speech was wonderful, not a wonderful performance;) The same kind of people that just think he was a respectful debater. The same people that say question everything but question nothing, especially their irrational beliefs.

You will find numerous inspirational and motivational speeches throughout history, but this is not one of them.
His widow is clearly working her way through the grief process, but this whole thing has the appearance of a stage-managed deification of a martyr and their new patron saint.
Given what Kirk has said about others there are some glaring inconsistencies, but you can say anything when you invoke the “Name of the Lord”. I wonder if Trump absorbed the comments on “Free Speech”: time will tell if he ceases his witch hunt on those who speak out against him.
I believe Kirk was quite wealthy for a relatively young man. Did he just cash in on the “Influencer” trend and take it to the next level with his Turning Point USA business.

^^ @supafreak, he didn’t win the Canberra court case it was abandoned due to a member of the jury doing his own investigative work against the judge’s instructions and the retrial wasn’t preceded with due to concern about Ms Higgins mental health, basically she was on suicide watch in/out of hospital.

Really important you are here though, @Opti. there's a real tidalwave of young 'uns who don't remember how shitty the ingrained nastiness and subtle gatekeeperness was in the 70s, 80s and 90s.. the non-inclusivity, the feeling that people weren't 'really' part of society if they had migrated from non-white countries and non-christian countries (also those not of the right class or education, regardless of colour). The chuckles behind closed doors, the power misuse..
We changed it over a couple of decades.. slowly but surely.. we didn't *quite* stamp out the fuckheadedness, and we also let hateful clowns be what they wanted to be, free speech and all that. We just dominated the social order with fair-mindedness as egalitarianism prevailed, celebrated difference and just though the world would mature, like a dry young comté..
progressiveness got silly (only for about 8 years, mind, but it was enough for those brewing forces to get their claws in, we all saw it coming). and in terms of that nasty shit from 50/40/30 years ago.. lest we forget. we forgot. apparently.

Pretty heavy pile on of Optimist tonight guys. I'm only just catching up now but free speech is exactly that and everyone should be free to have their say. Opti just asked about Charlie Kirks wife's speech today and I just watched it now. Seemed pretty sincere to me. Sure the whole show got a bit MAGAed out but that's America I suppose. I hadn't heard of him until a few months ago when someone sent me some clips of him debating. I know there's only snippets of stuff in many cases and stuff gets curated both ways but I for one found it sickening to see people openly cheering the death of someone. But then again free speech is exactly that and people are free to express their views. And from what I can see the right hasn't erupted in violence George Floyd style after this. I saw bit's of the memorial today and it looked like a big political show but good on them for that. Anyway I'm backing Opti on this and thought it was a good sincere speech and must have been tough to tell her husband's killer that she forgave him. Others clearly think that's fake. I didn't see it that way
Couldn't care less about Kirk-lovers, Kirk-haters, the speech, Trump, how to do a JV Dance or much about the USA at this point in time. Love that here ain't there, and that we LOVE that it ain't. (After years of trying to have some meaningful chats with the guy, @Opti's just been a bit of a prick to me.. he's not conservative at all, he's radical like @burls..).

Isn’t the act of forgiveness supposed to benefit the person doing the forgiving ? If you don’t forgive , then it’s like a poisonous cancer that slowly eats you up from the inside . Salty was right in saying she would be going through her stages of grief. She showed her anger in earlier speeches , a natural reaction to what she’s going through . Her future actions and what direction she takes turning point is what counts . I don’t believe everyone piled on opti , it’s just that some of us have a different perspective that don’t swallow the pantomime.
