Might as well put this up in the politics subforum, to spare the front page. It's 18 months away or so, but here we go.

This is how Dutton wins:

We don’t collect any significant revenue from our resources, we have nothing to develop tertiary industries, housing is an investment strategy instead of productive investment and older generations are relying on future generations working harder and longer to realise investment gains instead of industry that will lift future generations up aswell.

Yerp, Australia has had scared shit leaders with a population that bought the lie.

Australia is fucked.

With a decent tax on these companies we could have free university education in the areas where we are lacking and rely on immigration to fill those positions. Why can’t our leaders learn from the country’s that get it right ?

I had a chuckle at the National Service discussion earlier in the month. You actually have to have something to offer young people for their loyalty and patriotism. Instead young people are being increasingly commodified in every aspect of their lives while being punched down upon by those who require them to work harder for longer to live the Aussie dream that is getting harder and harder to achieve.

Or Supa, I agree with you on the the free University 100%. But Just dont mine the crap out of the land to begin with, Theyre destroying the very thing that we rely on for our sanity and our health. We don't need the gas for our survival. Seems like all natural examples found in local wild places for self sufficiency .. ie living off the land has been lost. But if the energy isn't there to begin with,, We find ways to reduce our spend and adjust accordingly. Business wont have it but, Id be for it.
And what about harnessing the eb and flow of the oceans? The energy is right there, The tides as they rise and fall, the wave energy,, the energy is provided for ,, we just need to harness it by turbines or some other way.. Its there and its free.

Watch them in Senate Inquiries.
I think One Nation secured another Senator also.
So it’s gone from Hanson and Roberts to 3.

I see the Labor faithful have gone quiet on Woodside being granted gas rights until 2070.
It seems the 2050 net zero target was about Labor’s credibility not emissions.
As weak as the Libs were they were upfront about gas…..cheap gas too.
Now , did the Labor party save some for us in the deal ????….shipped to the east coast at a cheap price for our businesses and homes.
Or is it just going to be burnt overseas by everyone else….for their businesses and homes to prosper…..while we pay through the nose for it…and go under.
Strayas a funny place alright.

Burnt overseas. The CO2 will be burnt in the northern hemisphere and the air in both hemispheres doesn't mix all that much, so there's that...

hey @opti, hope you didn’t spill too much of your ‘94 Penfolds, good drop that.

Yeah, “ … Strayas a funny place alright“ when lowering (not abolishing) a tax concession for super wealthy people can cause so much angst in the media … well, it would be your apocalypse / armageddon scenario in the media if Labor went anywhere near blocking that gas project, and you darn know it. So, not for the first time and nor the last I say too cute @opti !

Your a weird angry man guy frowny …..gas was a.ways going to be in the mix.
Labor just got a heap more votes by bullshitting that it wasn’t.
Something you do too …a lot of…. but not well…
Renewables, with gas then transition to bio gases will be how it goes…
And as it should….we are all doing well with the positive changes.
Bio gas hybrid electric cars the future…they already make them.
Bio gas backup baseload power stations as well.
I’ve just ordered a 20 kw battery for my home….or 15 if the other doesn't fit in the spot…….
AW will be proud of me….
.see Bowen is good for something…..everyone has something to offer….be good if both sides got on and got on with it.
Nuclear is dead the people don’t want it….nats should snap out of it.
Im going DC coupled so I can turn off the main switch.
I’m no longer interested in the power circus ….or feed in … or bonus sell back for heaps or pay to feed in mumbo jumbo sleight of hand con jobs.
I just want off the stupid way we run energy in this country…
No politician makes any sense regarding it.
I’ll have my stand alone electric house and my trusty gas cooker….
A nice blend of both.
An adobe oven outside as well for a bit of old fashioned bread and pizza CO2…
Life’s good… enjoy the ride…..but might not watch the news for a few years….
Seems to be crumbling quickly out there in the big world…
And I’m an old guy in a happy place…..and I like my happy place….its happy here.

It's good that gas has reached critical mass in the public consciousness now (Insta) and that the young generation begin to understand what is going on. Some of us have been going on about it here for years now, relieving to pass the baton on. Let's see what they can do with it. Just include a gas reservation for the east coast and it's industries, those that are left.

Do a Norway.

Guy Smiley, 3.5 Kw per day is unreal - how do you do it? We're nowhere near that with two young adults back in the house with us, would be great to hit those numbers!

Friday night movie:

How Holden Was Murdered

Plot spoiler: I think it's a tale of complete corporate bastardry by the American parent company, when the Aussies could design better cars, cheaper. Alleged siphoning of funds from a consistently profitable enterprise, making it look like it was losing money for the govco stimulus!

Moral of the story is if you must have a car industry, make sure it is domestically and patriotically owned.

GuySmiley. Hi mate. Good on ya.

Keeping your energy in is always better than trying heat up or cool your place.
Analogously, it’s like us wearing a puff jacket or any other winter warmer.
We generate roughly 37.4c it’s about wearing clothing that prevents the heat from escaping our bodies, it’s not about keeping the cold out.
Preserve what you have and generate your own heat range.
Houses are the same, today I was back at that house in Geelong where last year I did a lot of decking and internal renovations.
In 2023, I was under the house on my back for two weeks fixing 60mm thick 1200x450 polystyrene batts to the underside of the original (1956) hardwood floorboards.
My mate and client has all doors draught proof at the base and surrounds, whilst under the house I squirted in huge volumes of aerosol expanding foam which when used expands three times its volumes and fills the internal wall cavities between the back of the brickwork and the plaster. So many ways to draught proof your home.
Coupled with double glazed windows the house is now a heat sink, we both commented today how warm it is inside without heating.
In the attic above the ceiling rafters we have three layers of batts and polystyrene offcuts (waste from a factory). Heat rarely gets out.
You correctly mentioned, North facing or orientation to the north but what is best is having your house slightly oriented towards NNE.
In addition with time and money you can install a thermal wall in your house that roughly runs North/South and have windows facing to the West sector so as to catch all incoming passive solar radiation.
The wall should be solid and about 300mm thick so it can absorb, hold and then release heat into the house as the day goes by.
It doesn’t take much effort to save the planet and your hard earned.

So good to hear you’ve made the effort to not waste energy. Good stuff..AW

GuySmiley. Hi mate.

So true, smarter people have definitely been before us when it comes to surviving in climate extremes.
We have a misconception in modern times that we are smarter or more intelligent than previous existences.
We know it’s not the case. Have a good weekend, I’m about to get into some nice 3-5ft waves around Torquay, cracker of a day coming up. AW

When will we mature as a society, igniting or lighting a gas stove is archaic.
Stop and think about it for awhile, you hear and smell the gas, you light it, right in front of your eyes the polluting begins.
Just because we can source gas doesn’t make it clean energy, it’s not , it’s a fossil fuel and there are way better ways to cook food with other energy sources.

We’ve had it too good for too long, brainwashed over the decades by energy companies and governments. I’m so disappointed with Labor at present.

Get your own non fossil fuel devices to cook with, they do exist if you can break away from the indoctrinated ways. Gotta set the wheels in motion for a better Australia when it comes to the sourcing and use of energy.

We can become a smart country when it comes to energy, but we must accept change. AW

Hi AW,
I completely agree with you! We all need to speak up about this and it seems a lot of people of influence are speaking up. I hope the local Aboriginal communities get justice and can stop this horrible industry from going ahead.
To your point, we can reduce the use of polluting gas on the domestic front by switching to alternative means of heating and cooling, such as electricity generated by solar, hydro, wind, or tidal power, or even wood fires. However, can Industry players do without gas as a resource? I’m sure if it was forced to, it could.
Take agriculture for example, Monoculture principles are a massive contributor to the mess we are in, fruit and veg, beef, dairy, chicken and salmon. They all rely on fertilisers, insecticides, herbicides, that are heavily reliant on use of gas. This could all not be an issue if these industries were not in place.
As for Fracking!! OMG..The extraction process of fracking is just so damaging and reckless.
The investors who buy huge tracts of forested land, acres and acres of it, have blood on their hands, they know it’s a dirty business, but the money is just too good to refuse.
The earth suffers..The natural gas reserves are essentially needed for the stability of the earth, and yet, stake holders are given licence to alter and destroy it! It’s insane and seems wrong to me.
They clear the land of every living thing on it, natural forested areas, are clear felled, its rich and diverse ecosystem of all living organisms, gone, animal habitat, gone, birdlife eh..huh? they say, with a wry smile, what birdlife? Der! All gone, of course it’s all gone.. It’d be laughable if it wasnt’t so sad!
The drilling rigs drill deep down, blasting into and through fresh drinking water tables before going deeper until they reach the desired seams of the earth, lateral drilling follows along with the injection of vast amounts of chemicals, poisons! Chemicals pumped into the earth, this expands the earth creating fissures, and they capture the gas as it is released. Meanwhile the massive chemicals and fresh water mix is pumped back to the surface, put in open to air holding reserves just waiting for the next flood to come along and wash it out into the wider environment. Happens all the time…

Such a wonderous, beautiful planet destroyed forever, it will survive in how many years?!! But its taking a full on bruising by us now, when will the tide turn for the better? I know its not just Albo, he seemed to be someone quite cool with compassion and conviction! This however, has been in the making for a very long time. Still , if something isnt right .. you stop that action before the damage is done.. or what!.
Cheers
