It's really pretty simple. When making decisions, they ask the following questions:
1. Will the environment get ruined?
2. Does it make no sense?
3. Would it make any normal person shake their head in disbelief?
4. Is it a way of saying F U to much of the country and the rest of the (non-Russian) world?
If it's affirmative to any of the above, then it's a full go.

Interesting article and some very valid points.
However, many in the USA, both corporations and individuals accumulated extreme wealth due to their trade with China, and this could have been handled within the US domestically a lot better.
When a full-time worker at Walmart still needs government assistance to live whilst the family who are the major shareholder is one of the world's richest families, there is a problem with wealth distribution in the US.
Tariffs in this case will just make everyone poorer, and the USA in my view will lose the trade war.
I just hope Australia is not fooked over in the process as we rely on the global trade system especially China and Asia.
