This week and weekend (Feb 6 – 11)

The surf will remain small over the coming days with a new S/SW swell later today and tomorrow coming in at 1-2ft max on the Surf Coast and 2-3ft on the Mornington Peninsula.

Winds are dicey again tomorrow with a possible variable dawn breeze, increasing from the E/SE shortly after (gusty into the afternoon), limiting surfing options.

The swell is then expected to fade Wednesday mixed in with a SE windswell on the Surf Coast as winds improve a touch, tending E/NE through the morning. The Mornington Peninsula which will be cleanest is only due to be around 2ft+ or so.

Thursday looks cleaner again with a morning variable wind but with no size left at all, even at exposed spots.

As touched on last update, we've got some new W'ly swell due later in the week, followed by some small SW swell into the weekend.

The W'ly swell isn't ideal, with a strong mid-latitude low forming south-west of WA generating a fetch of strong to gale-force W'ly winds in our western swell window.

This swell is expected to arrive late Thursday and peak Friday, but with no size on the Surf Coast (tiny Torquay) and 2ft sets 13th Beach, while the Mornington Peninsula should be a better 3ft to possibly 4ft.

Variable winds from the east should again be seen early Friday before S/SE winds come up through the morning, favouring the beaches east of Melbourne.

Behind the mid-latitude low a broader but weaker fetch of W/SW winds more in our south-western swell window has generated some secondary SW energy for the weekend. Winds look good Saturday morning ahead of a change, with poor conditions Sunday, but more on this Wednesday.
