Slow surf in Perth and Mandurah with clean conditions but inconsistent 1-1.5ft sets both yesterday and today. The South West was clean and a slow 3ft on the sets yesterday, with an infrequent mid-period W/SW swell providing 3-5ft sets on the magnets today. It's a long wait for the best sets though.

Blink and you would have missed it this AM

This week and weekend (Jun 2 - 10)

While today's swell is a little flukey and inconsistent we've got a better, more consistent and reliable mid-period W/SW swell due to fill in later tomorrow, generated by a small but persistent fetch of strong to gale-force W/SW winds pushing east through the Indian Ocean the last couple of days.

The swell is due to arrive later in the day and peak Friday with tomorrow coming in mostly around 4-5ft across the South West and 1-1.5ft in Perth and Mandurah with Friday seeing better 5-6ft+ waves in the South West and 2ft sets across Perth and Mandurah.

Winds will be onshore tomorrow in the wake of a front clipping the state, bringing strong SW tending S/SW winds, with light NE winds in Perth and E/SE winds in Mandurah, tending S/SW during the day.

Friday is the pick with the new, easing swell and E/SE offshore winds across the South West, and Mandurah, SE in Perth.

The swell will ease into Saturday with great winds again, E/SE in the morning and S/SE into the afternoon.

Later in the day Saturday our new pulse of SW groundswell is due (peaking Sunday), generated by a strong polar low that's formed around the Heard Island region today. A fetch of gale to severe-gales are being generated as it pushes east, with a secondary fetch of W'ly gales to follow tomorrow evening, producing a reinforcing pulse of smaller swell for Tuesday.

Coming back to Sunday and we should see strong 6ft+ surf across the South West reefs (8ft cleanups likely) with 2ft sets in Perth and Mandurah.

Winds look great and offshore from the E/NE Sunday morning, tending E/SE through the afternoon. Monday looks smaller with sets back to 4-5ft as winds persist from the E/NE.

Now, into next week we've got some better pulses of inconsistent W/SW groundswell due across the state, generated by strong back to back lows firing up from under South Africa and further south-east.

An initial strong low today should produce an inconsistent W/SW groundswell that should arrive Tuesday afternoon, followed by a secondary stronger pulse Wednesday afternoon.

Back to back lows will generate severe-gale W/SW winds, with the second low being closer and pushing further east but both look to generate similar sized swells.

The first for Tuesday afternoon should reach an inconsistent 6ft+ across the South West, 2ft in Perth and Mandurah on the sets with the secondary Wednesday coming in at 6-8ft and 2ft+ respectively.

Winds will strengthen but blow offshore from the E on Tuesday and be strong from the E/NE on Wednesday, holding Thursday out of the E/NE as the swell starts to ease.

Longer term further pulses of long-range groundswell are due with favourable winds but more on this Friday.
