Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 28th February)

Best Days: No quality surf days this period

Recap

Storms, strengthening offshore winds and not much in the way of swell away from the South West again yesterday.

Today conditions were cleaner across more locations with lighter winds and a touch less swell. Winds have since strengthened from the NE and a new acute S/SW groundswell is expected to fill in this afternoon, reaching 4ft+ across the south swell magnets.

This week and weekend (Feb 29 – Mar 6)

We've got a slow old forecast period ahead with no significant size due at all but with generally favourable winds, besides this weekend.

This afternoon's pulse of S/SW groundswell is due to ease through tomorrow and with morning N/NW-NW breeze, locations east of Cape Leeuwin will be the pick. Margs should ease back from 3-4ft on the south swell magnets but with bumpy conditions, tiny to the north.

Come Sunday there'll be no size left and strong to near gale-force SE winds will create choppy and terrible conditions.

The swell is expected to become tiny to flat Monday and Tuesday with gusty offshore winds, tending variable on both days.

As discussed the last couple of updates, the only other swell of interest for next week is a very inconsistent long-range groundswell that'll build Wednesday and peak Thursday morning.

With the source being a storm south of South Africa, and not overly significant we'll be lucky to see 3ft to possibly 4ft sets across the South West magnets later Wednesday when it builds and more so Thursday morning.

Local winds Wednesday morning will be offshore ahead of sea breezes, less favourable and from the S/SE Thursday morning.

It should also be mentioned there'll be a tiny W/SW swell for Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning around Perth and Mandurah, generated by a weakening mid-latitude low in the southern Indian Ocean. Size wise nothing over 1ft is expected.

Longer term we'll hopefully see some good W/SW swell into the week starting the 9th of March, but we'll have a closer look at this on Monday. Have a great weekend!
