Recap

Clean, easing surf from the large swell through the week, bottoming out this morning.

This weekend and next week (Jan 23 - 29)

We’ve got our strong SW groundswell for the weekend developing directly south-west of us, with a drawn out and slow moving polar low currently generating a great fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds.

This fetch will be maintained through our swell window today before shifting slightly more zonal but still well placed for us tomorrow, shifting east into the afternoon.

The slow movement will result in a prolonged SW tending S/SW groundswell which should fill in initially tomorrow, offering strong 3-4ft sets across Clifton, similar in size Sunday. The swell is then due to ease Monday back from 2ft to possibly 3ft.

Looking at the winds and tomorrow will be favourable most of the day with a light NW tending weak SE’ly, similar Sunday.

Monday will see fresher N/NE winds ahead of a trough and afternoon S’ly change.

Looking at the rest of the week and there’s nothing too major on the cards at all. We may see a weak front strengthening south of us Tuesday, producing a weak S/SW swell for Wednesday but winds will be onshore and the size only 1-2ft or so.

Longer term there’s an inconsistent W/SW groundswell on the way for next weekend and a possible local SE swell, but more on this Monday. Make the most of the coming swell and have a great weekend!
