Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 17th December)

Best Days: Depserate surfers tomorrow morning, Wednesday morning

Recap

Poor surf with onshore winds and weak windswells yesterday and today.

This weekend and next week (Jan 18 - 24)

There's no decent swell due from the westerly storm track and Southern Ocean this period, with surface troughs instead bringing average and weak S/SE swells with generally onshore winds.

One such system that's currently sitting just east of us will weaken tomorrow, allowing winds to swing E/NE tomorrow morning, with an easing S/SE windswell from 1-2ft, tiny Sunday.

Another surface trough developing to our south-east on Monday will bring onshore winds and a building S/SE windswell later in the day, but it's not due to be overly strong, weaker than forecast on Wednesday.

Only a small 1-2ft or so of S/SE windswell is on the cards Tuesday along with SE winds, cleaner Wednesday morning with a more variable breeze but easing 1-2ft of swell.

Longer term, a mid-latitude low moving in from the west mid-late next week looks too north in latitude to generate any decent swell for us, possibly dipping south-east and holding strength into next weekend, but we'll have to review this Monday. Have a great weekend!
