Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 15th January)

Best Days: Today, possibly next Wednesday morning

Recap

A drop in swell but OK conditions yesterday with a light onshore breeze, increasing through the afternoon.

A new W/SW groundswell has pushed in today providing good but inconsistent sets, better at spots that enjoy a bit of north-east in the wind.

This week and weekend (Jan 16 – 19)

Make the most of today as the coming period is looking relatively poor.

Today's swell is expected to fade through tomorrow and a trough moving in from the west will bring poor and strong S/SW winds.

These winds will swing more S/SE and ease off a touch into Friday as the trough moves slowly east, while also generating a small and weak S'ly windswell to 1-2ft or so. Very weak and junky.

Saturday isn't looking much better as winds tend E/NE in the morning but with a tiny mix of easing swells.

We're likely to see another surface trough deepening just east of us into early next week, generating strengthening S/SE winds and a more substantial S/SW windswell, building through Monday, peaking Tuesday morning but with poor winds.

On the backside of the swell conditions may clean up, but more on this Friday.
