Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 2nd December)

Best Days: Protected spots over the coming days, Thursday, Sunday

Recap

Fun, clean and easing 1-2ft waves on Saturday, tiny Sunday while today would have likely started tiny ahead of a building swell into this afternoon but with strong onshore winds.

This week and weekend (Dec 3 - 8)

The first of many frontal systems pushing up and across us under the influence of a stalling node of the Long Wave Trough moved through today, with a secondary stronger but more northerly positioned front due to push across us tomorrow.

This will project a fetch of strong W/SW winds just within our western swell window from early tomorrow right through until the evening, with a secondary broader and more southerly positioned front stalling under us on Wednesday and Thursday. This will see a prolonged fetch of strong W/SW-SW winds generated in our swell window through the rest of the week, with one final push up and into us on Friday helping to keep the weekend topped up with plenty of surf.

A building trend in W/SW swell is expected tomorrow, from 2ft+ in the morning to 3ft into the afternoon along with unfavourable and strong W tending W/SW winds.

A further increase in size is then due on Wednesday from 3ft in the morning to 4ft into the afternoon, easing slightly from that size Thursday morning from a more SW direction.

The final push of winds up and into us on Friday should kick the surf back up through the day, to the 4ft+ range from the SW, then easing back slowly from 4ft on Saturday.

Winds look similar on Wednesday to Tuesday, if not slightly better and tending W/NW for a period through the morning, shifting W/SW though the day, great Thursday morning with a lighter N/NW offshore, shifting W/NW through the day.

Friday will become average as winds strengthen from the W/SW, lingering from the W/SW tending SW on Saturday and then S/SW into the afternoon.

Sunday looks clean with a N/NW offshore as the swell continues to ease but from a more S'ly direction, with sets to 2-3ft likely across Clifton.

Longer term the outlook is very quiet so make the most of the windy swells to come.
