Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 2nd October)

Best Days: Thursday, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings

Recap

Good easing 2-3ft waves with a dropping SW groundswell yesterday, small to tiny this morning. A new S/SW groundswell should have kicked later morning and is expected to reach 3ft+ across Clifton by late but with sea breezes.

This week and weekend (Oct 3 - 6)

This afternoon's late kick in S/SW groundswell is due to peak overnight, easing back from 2-3ft tomorrow morning with a great offshore N/NE tending fresher E/NE breeze through the day.

Friday morning looks to be a low point in swell, but a strengthening polar front developing south-west of us and pushing in through the day should generate a good mid-period SW swell for later in the day and more so Saturday.

2-3ft surf should be seen across Clifton but with poor and strong S/SW winds Friday afternoon, better Saturday morning and from the W/NW ahead of SE sea breezes.

Sunday will be smaller and back to 1-2ft along with a strengthen N/NE tending NE breeze.

The surf should start to build back into Tuesday and Wednesday as a series of broad but relatively weak polar fronts move in. We're looking at building sets to 3ft through Tuesday and holding Wednesday with workable winds from the western quadrant, but more on this Friday.
