Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Monday 16th June)

Best Days: Thursday, Friday morning, Saturday

Recap

The weekend started off slow, but a strong and powerful SW groundswell came in as expected Sunday morning with 3-5ft waves across Clifton with light variable winds.

The swell dropped noticeably into the afternoon while today small 1-2ft leftovers were seen across the coast today.

This week (Jun 16 - 20)

Give the surf a miss tomorrow and Wednesday and aim for a paddle on Thursday as we'll see a good new SW groundswell filling in, generated by a vigorous polar front firing up in our prime swell window today and projecting near us tomorrow and then up into New Zealand Wednesday.

The swell from this system should arrive later Wednesday and peak Thursday morning to 3ft across Clifton before easing a touch into the afternoon and further from 1-2ft Friday morning.

Winds should be favourable most of Thursday with a NW tending variable breeze, while Friday will also be good with a persistent NW'ly.

This weekend onwards (Jun 16 onwards)

Some rare S/SE groundswell is due across the South Arm this weekend, generated by the polar low firing up on the tail of the front pushing towards New Zealand Wednesday. This low will aim a fetch of severe-gale S/SE winds just on the edge of our swell window with an inconsistent but good 2ft or so of S/SE groundswell due Saturday across Clifton. More exposed locations should see more size and winds will be favourable from the NW tending W/SW.

The swell is expected to fade Sunday with a possible good SW groundswell on the cards for early next week. Check back here on Wednesday for the latest on all of this though.
