Nias, Mentawai, South Sumatra forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thursday 9th Jul)

Best Days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the most size, every day into next week

This week and next week (Jul 10 – Jul 17)

A large S/SW groundswell should be breaking across the region today, peaking through the day to an inconsistent 6-8ft+ with moderate E/SE trades. This swell is due to ease through tomorrow, down from 6ft to occasionally 8ft at dawn, down further into Saturday and Sunday.

In the absence of any other significant swell, some small S/SE trade-swell is due from a stationary fetch of strong SE winds to our south and this should keep exposed breaks topped up with 3ft+ sets Sunday afternoon through Tuesday before easing into the middle of the week.

Winds will become more variable as well across the Ments from tomorrow, with fresh and easing SE winds across Southern Sumatra.

Through the rest of next week and following week there's nothing significant on the cards, with a persistent blocking pattern due to setup across the Indian Ocean, subduing all the frontal activity to the poles. This will result in small, inconsistent levels of S/SW groundswell keeping exposed breaks busy with infrequent 4-5ft sets from Wednesday through next weekend. More on this in Tuesday's update though.

Just wondering when the next update is likely to be Craig? I'm heading off to the Telos on the 22nd for 10 days and keen to know whether I need to take a step up or not. Cheers

Will have an update tomorrow Maddog, at this stage nothing to serious on the cards, with moderate to possibly large pulses of S'ly swell.
