Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday October 6th)

Best Days: South magnets all weekend and Monday

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Tiny NE swell fading tomorrow
  • Easing mid-period S swell tomorrow with W tending NE winds
  • Moderate sized S'ly groundswell building Sun PM, peaking overnight, easing Mon
  • W tending NE then NW winds late Sun, W tending NE on Mon

Recap

Clean conditions in southern corners with a mix of close-range S'ly swell and building NE groundswell which looked to come in around the 4ft range at it's peak. A little under the expected 6ft on the magnets.

The swell was still a fun 3-4ft this morning with great conditions, though with the long lines you needed a good reef or bank.

Long lined sets of NE groundswell yesterday

This weekend and next week (Oct 3 - 8)

The weekend will see easing NE and S'ly swell energy, with northern corners and south magnets being the pick.

A front pushing up past our coast today should maintain 3ft sets across the south magnets tomorrow morning along with a W'ly offshore ahead of NE sea breezes.

Into Sunday we're now set to see a final pulse of S'ly groundswell into the afternoon, generated by a strengthening polar frontal system, south-west of the state today.

A great, broad fetch of W/NW gales should produce good 3ft sets into the afternoon. Winds are tricky but a morning W'ly is due to go sea breezey ahead of a late NW change. So the late session Sunday looks really fun.

Easing surf is then expected into Monday from 2-3ft under W'ly tending NE winds.

Unfortunately the rest of the week looks slow so make the most of today's surf and the S'ly pulses over the coming days. Have a great weekend!
