Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday April 29th)

Best Days: Tomorrow exposed beaches, Wednesday for the keen

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Small, easing N/NE swell tomorrow mixed in with a smaller SE groundswell. Mod-fresh NW tending W winds
  • Small, inconsistent E/NE trade-swell building later Tue with strong N winds, peaking Wed with W/NW tending S winds
  • Fading surf Thu

Recap

Bumpy NE windswell waves, improving later in the day yesterday, much better today with a cold front moving through bringing a W’ly change late morning.

This weekend and next week (Apr 30 - May 6)

The current NE swell will hold the 2ft+ range tomorrow morning across the north-east swell magnets, easing through the day as the infeed of swell generating N/NE winds weaken. There’ll also be a tiny, inconsistent SE signal fading and conditions will be great with a NW tending W breeze.

Following this the outlook is slow with a flurry of weak, zonal fronts due to push across us.

Some very inconsistent E/NE trade-swell is due mid-week from persistent fetch of easterly winds north of New Zealand, generating a very infrequent 2ft with the possible rare bigger one later Tuesday and more so Wednesday.

Strong N’ly winds will create average conditions Tuesday afternoon with W/NW tending S winds on Wednesday, opening up plenty of options.

Following this small, flukey swell, we should see a more reliable swell producer forming off the coast later next week. That being a deepening surface trough and multi-centred low, bringing an increase in swell from the south to south-east but with plenty of wind. The specifics are unsure but check back Monday for the latest. Have a great weekend!
