Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 28th September)

Best Days: South swell magnets tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday, early Friday

Recap

A small SE swell to 1-2ft on Saturday, with yesterday seeing more size build through the day. This morning was good with plenty of fun sized S'ly swell on the south magnets and a further kick in size should have been seen this afternoon with sets to 4ft.

This week and weekend (Sep 29 – Oct 4)

This afternoon's pulse of S'ly groundswell is expected to ease back through tomorrow with sets to 3-4ft due across the south swell magnets, smaller at other breaks.

The polar front that generated this swell has now become part of a much more significant low that formed under New Zealand, with a great fetch of gale to severe-gale S/SE-SE winds being projected up and towards us.

The low is now slowly moving off to the east, with the swell generating fetch being aimed away from us.

We should see the SE groundswell from the low arriving Wednesday and building to a strong 5-6ft on the sets into the afternoon, easing back Thursday from 3-5ft.

Come Friday there isn't expected to be much left with fading 2ft sets.

Looking at the local winds and we're got favourable variable tending N/NE winds for the south magnets tomorrow, fresh N/NW all day Wednesday, then NW tending W/NW on Thursday. Friday will see stronger NW winds as the swell fades.

Longer term we may see some small N/NE windswell into early next week, but more on this Wednesday.
