Best Days: North-east swell magnets for the desperate later Saturday and Sunday morning

Recap

Tiny waves over the weekend and similar today.

This week and next weekend (Jan 28 – Feb 2)

As touched on the last couple of updates, there's nothing on the cards surf wise this week with the Tasman Sea, Coral Sea and Southern Ocean becoming fairly benign.

Into the weekend the charts are showing some small N/NE windswell but this will be from a distant source - that being fetches of N/NE winds off the southern NSW coast, but not extending past Eden.

With this there'll be swell decay as the swell travels towards us, and we're only due to see small 1-2ft sets across north-east swell magnets Saturday afternoon, similar Sunday morning and then easing.

Winds will be favourable owing to the swell generating fetch sitting further away from us, with NW offshore, shifting more N/NW ahead of a late S'ly change Saturday, S/SE Sunday ahead of a NW change. This will favour those south magnets through the weekend.

Longer term some good S/SE groundswell is likely through early-mid next week from a broad low forming south-east of New Zealand late week. We'll keep an eye on this though so check back Wednesday for an update.
