Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 17th October)

Best Days: Saturday morning south swell magnets, Tuesday morning south swell magnets, later Wednesday open beaches, early Thursday north-east swell magnets

Recap

Wednesday's kick in E/SE swell eased back from 2-3ft under offshores yesterday ahead of a late S'ly change. This change kicked up a weak new S'ly swell today to 2-3ft across south swell magnets, while a mix of easing E/SE and NE swell offered 2ft sets at remaining beaches.

This weekend onwards (Oct 18 onwards)

There isn't expected to be much of today's S'ly swell left into tomorrow with 1-2ft sets leftover at south swell magnets under favourable NW winds early.

Come Sunday tiny surf is due across the region as a fresh W'ly change moves through.

This wind shift will be linked to a S'ly change overnight Sunday and this should bring with it a fresh increase in S'ly windswell Monday.

South facing beaches should pulse back to 2-3ft but conditions will be poor with a fresh S/SW tending S/SE breeze.

Tuesday looks a touch better as winds swing back to the N/NW early with the odd 2ft set at south facing breaks.

Of greater importance if a broadening and strengthening fetch of NE winds aimed towards us into Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday as another trough approaching us from the west squeezes the western flank of a strong high in the Tasman Sea.

This should produce a building N/NE windswell through Wednesday, reaching 2-3ft across north-east facing beaches but with average N/NE tending N/NW winds. This late swing to the N/NW should open up fun peaky waves across open beaches, but there'll be smaller and in the 2ft range.

Thursday will be clean in southern corners as a S'ly change moves through but the NE swell will be easing from the 2ft range, so the early will be the go.

Longer term there's nothing too major on the cards with similar S'ly and then small NE pulses on the cards, but we'll look at this again Monday. Have a great weekend!
