Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Mon Sep 22nd)

This week and next week (Sep 22 -Oct 3)

Central QLD: Tiny/flat for a while

Almost rideable

A massive high is in the Bight but weakens rapidly as it moves up over the continent and then enters that Tasman at sub-tropical latitudes. That will see a continuation of very weak winds in the Coral Sea and tiny/flat surf in CQ.

That pattern holds right through this week and over the weekend.

Further ahead there is a small trough of low pressure modelled to form off the CQ/Wide Bay coast next week (see below) with potential for a small bump in E swell from winds feeding into the trough. If the system forms as currently modelled we’d be looking at a small increase Tues/Wed next week.

Very low confidence this far out so check back Wed for the latest.
