Small, just rideable surf possible this week
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Mon 19th May)
This week and next week (May19-May30)
Central QLD: Small, just rideable surf possible this week
A very unstable, dynamic synoptic chart this week with a large high (1034hPa) moving from the Bight through Victoria, with a coastal trough deepening on the leading edge of the high directing very moist onshore winds across Central NSW, extending up into the sub-tropics.
Unfortunately the majority of the fetch feeding into this system is too far south of generate any meaningful swell for CQ.
We should see some tiny, possibly just rideable surf from the system through the week, more likely after Wed as the fetch draws out into the Northern Tasman.
Just some small surf coming off the top of this fetch
A tradewind fetch establishes as the system moves E but the travel distance and position of the fetch means only small surf is likely obvert the weekend.
Next week we’ll see a pattern change with a strong front in the Tasman and no swell moving north of K’gari (Fraser Is).
We’ll see how it looks on Wed.
Seeya then.
