The Fruits Of Labour
Swellnet forecaster Craig Brokensha scarfed the fruits of his own labour on the weekend. After issuing a swell alert for the east coast last Tuesday - "not big, but very well groomed," he said - Craig dialled in his observations through the latter parts of the working week. As Friday arvo drew near he scoped an ideal stretch of coast and hit the highway.

Under The Cape
At the eastern-most point of Australia, during the middle of winter, in the warmest July on record, photographer Rayne Fouche recorded this beautiful barrell-filled session.

After an amazing overall performance Portuguese talent Nic Von Rupp has taken down some of the world's best tube riders to become the champion of the first Pawa Tube Fest.

Von Rupp beat Nathan Hedge, Diego Silva, Brian Conley, Nils Schweizer and Gabriel Villaran in the final.

Sunny Coast Weekend
Unseasonal? Yeah, well sorta...
The Sunshine Coast had a sorta unseasonal burst of east swell over the weekend, part of a broader swathe of swell that hit the whole east coast. Jack Dekort went a'roaming not very far from home. There he caught Mitch Adams, Ziggy and Tom flying over and racing under.

Pawa Tube Fest - Day 2
After a slew of laydays and expression sessions Day 2 of the Pawa Tube Fest went off in 6 to 8 foot waves. Artitz Aramburu scored the highest heat total for a couple of clean and deep rides while local surfer, Marcos "Chivito" Hootman, got the second highest total score. Unfortunately a wind squall shut down the comp before the end of the Round. More to come.

The 5th annual Wooden Surfboard Day
"The 5th annual Wooden Surfboard Day was one out of the bag. We got lucky with 24 degrees air, 21 degree water and three feet of swell and offshore winds. It was the best weather in three months and a great turn out of people and boards. Probably upwards of 200 wooden boards were in the park today."

Maldives Report - July
The following report is by Richard Kotch / World Surfaris.
Many years ago I spent far too much time pondering the meaning of life and subsequently became quite interested in Buddhism. My meditation teacher at the time placed a great deal of emphasis on finding the middle path and eliminating the highs and lows from life. Mr. Lama would have been most unimpressed with July in the Maldives!

"Heaven"
"As a photographer I have never seen so many perfect waves go unridden in Australia." So said the first line in the email from Sydney photographer Jordan Barta describing a recent day trip.
Jordan and surfer, Judd Atkins, "rockedĀ up to this spot with only dolphins surfing these perfect waves. We thought we were dreaming. Judd bolted back to the car while jumping around like a little kid. We surfed for three hours before any other person came out."

Sydney
"Any boss who fires their staff for not showing up today is a bum." So said Swellnet reporter, Pete Mitchell, this morning in a lovely ode to Australia's favoutite schooner sculler, Bob Hawke.
Ol' Pete is on the money, the surf in Sydney is firing and only gonna get better as the day progresses. So stop looking at the internet, get your work done and find an excuse to split early.
All photos by Swellnet's resident bum and boss, Ben Matson.

Sunny Coast
The easterly trade swell has been plugging away on the Sunshine Coast most of this week. Yet this morning the swell had that bit extra oomph in it, courtesy of a mid-Tasman low.
Jack Dekort scarfed his Weet-Bix for a fun run through the early session with Ziggy Albert, Tom Tyler and old mate kneelo getting his backlit glow on. There's even a sly shot of Julian Wilson getting high during yesterday's late session.
