Billabong Pro Tahiti: Day 2

Apologies if you came here looking for info on the contest, I didn't watch a single wave. Looks like the usual suspects are still in the running so all is well in the world.

If you'd like a well-researched and written report on the day by someone who knows how to do their job click here.

However, if you just want to look at pretty photos, well, here they are.

Billabong Pro Tahiti: Day 3

The third and final day of the Billabong Pro Tahiti was a marathon affair with 19 heats surfed from the end of Round 3 onwards. Ace Buchan went on a tear claiming Jordy, John John, and Mick Fanning before claiming the biggest scalp on tour - Old Baldy - to win Chopes 2013.

Billabong Pro Tahiti: Day 1

Contest organisers never like to wait when the waiting period starts. First day action establishes a momentum for all the people who make the contest happen, both contestants and organisers alike. Give 'em a half decent day and they're off...

Such was the case today when a four foot swell - not great but wholly contestable - broke on the Chopes reef and organisers sounded the horn. Conditions deteriorated through the day but organisers pressed on regardless.

Volcom Pro Fiji - Rounds 3, 4 & 5

It started with a high tide wobble and fresh trades threatening to turn the corner, it ended with grinding low tide Cloudbreak under a true trade offshore. Day 3 of competition at the Volcom Pro Fiji was an epic day of surfing with many incredible barrels and the odd high speed lip hit. Classic stuff that was rewarded with huge scores. Check the Heats on Demand if you missed the webcast.

Volcom Pro Fiji - Round Two

I had to search long and hard to find photos of surfers not in the barrel today. They weren't easy to find. It was all some surfers could do to keep up with the rifling Restaurants lip, and even then many of the barrels simply freightrained past the surfers like they were driving 60 in a 90 zone.

A few surfers had incredible last-second heat wins, while the Brazilian contingent was decimated by the end of the day - just two Brazilians remain in the draw. Also, there are just 9 goofyfooters left among the remaining 24 surfers. Incredible in this screwfoot paradise.

Volcom Pro Fji - Round One

Cloudbreak was six foot and perfect, World Champion Parko went fishing at a place called Jurassic Park, while Kelly Slater was sending Instagrams from Florida. It would've been absurd if it wasn't so damn perfect.

For those who missed it, here are the pics.

The best of Fiji 2012

Last year's Volcom Fiji Pro was a great contest with many highlights: Gabriel Medina rode the wave that would later be deemed the Wave of the Year; CJ Hobgood grabbed his 'nads and gestured to the judges after beating Adriano in the Quarters; and Slater, as he so often does, dominated and took home the tropy.

So many great moments.

Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach: Day Five Photos

Ain't nothing like going back to the office after a four-day holiday and having a webcast to watch. Work? That can wait till the finals are run and the fat lady sings.

As all webcast watchers know Adriano De Souza prevailed over Nat Young, the rookie from Santa Cruz. Adriano was so excited he broke the famous Bells trophy when ringing it. A claim for the ages.

Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach: Day Two Photos

Except for the first two heats the waves were wild and wooly at Bells today. It was 6-8 feet and a bit loose and wobbly - tough waves to surf well in.

Braithy has much more to say about it here, as does the ASP with a polished press release.
