Bondi Beach to re-open next week

Swellnet Dispatch

Last night, Waverley Council voted to ease restrictions at Bondi, Tamarama, and Bronte beaches. The restrictions were imposed in late March and have been maintained since.

From next Tuesday, April 28, sections of Bondi, Bronte and Tamarama will be open from 7:00am to 5:00pm Mondays to Fridays. The beaches will be closed over the weekends. They'll also remain closed to sunbaking or gatherings on the sand.

New signage at Bondi was being tested last night (ABC News)

The number of people in the water will be monitored and the Council has warned the beaches will again be shut if the rules are broken.

This week, Randwick Council re-opened Maroubra, Coogee, and Clovelly beaches with lifeguards giving regular warnings about the social distancing guidelines over the loudspeakers.

Craig, most people have been coming to the Northern Northern Beaches on the weekend anyhow. You saw the footage of Newport across the press?? Apparently Av. has been bedlam! It's inconsistent and rarely surf-able up here anyway, not sure why anyone is bothering to come all this way.

Yes I know, it's a joke, but at least this takes some pressure off through the week.

My local curl curl has been swamped from 6:30am onwards last couple of weeks, a lot of unfamiliar faces in the line up which in fairness is probably a combo of both more local surfers with time on their hands for an early morning session but also people from the eastern suburbs as it is one of the closest beaches north of the bridge. It’s been so busy I have been heading up to longy which has more space and peaks to spread out. Guessing a lot of ES surfers would have been heading to the bra for the early this week, although no swell for week and a half by the look of the forecasts... Bondi opening should further help push the numbers down here’s hoping.

Unrelated but the thumbnail for this article reminded me of one of the funniest things i've seen.

Years ago I was driving early in the morning and heading over the border to look for waves. It was heaps early, kinda grey, drizzly morning and just as i was coming over the hill, i think i was around Chinderah and i saw one of those flashing road signs warning of roadworks or the like. I nearly ran of the road because somehow, somebody with a working knowledge had got into it and it was flashing "SUCK..MY...DICK". I kid you not, i nearly swerved off the road laughing. I laughed about that all day.

so many people off school and work that i don't think it'll make much difference how many sydney beaches are opened...they will all by swamped by people and unsurfable.

Interesting to see if they stop people getting in the water before 7am. Will authorities be there at 6am?

Saying Bondi , Bronte and Pittwater aren’t bad because theyre better than Victoria is like someone who’s 5’1” saying they’re not short cause they’re taller than Tyrion Lannister.

My partner’s parents live with us in a house I just bought with cash and I retired 3 years ago at 44 years of age.

I wasn’t being an arsehole , I was being honest.

You probably think Western Sydney is a rat fucked , shithole....doesn’t make you an arsehole. It makes you correct.

Don’t take my opinion personally. You are not your address.

Not good for the weekend warriors (there are a few of us left) the northern beaches mayor said on 702 (ABC) the local police have been checking for people out of area. The crowds have been horrid. lets hope Saturday sports and café open soon to ease the crowds.

ES surfers please consider others or they will shut you down!

Mid coast S.A has been an absolute joke in the last week or so. Not a car park free from Christie’s to moana. Mostly non locals, 40 guys sitting on beginner breaks like Rincon, they can all fuck off. It has been the talk off many locals. Not a fan of surf reports and cameras and to be fair I would think local surfers all over aus think the same. Swellnet content is great and would still get plenty of traffic without the other bullshit.

Well for a new low swellnet posting bullshit surf reports maybe they'll do the same up there:

Barwon Heads this morning "If your not from here please don’t travel here for the safety of yourself and others. It’s clean and good size this morning but it’s busy - BR"

Its NOT BUSY and its SMALL.

But magic seaweed says otherwise. Do they just make it up from magic seaweed?

Well MidCoaster, not everyone lives across the road from the beach.
it never ceases to amaze me how people who live in different areas think they own their beach. Got news for you, you don't so get the fuck over it. I'm know when we all go on holidays we pack our boards and surf wherever we can. share the waves, it's amazing how much more relaxing that is.
