The highlight of Day 1 of the World Cup, held in marquee 10-12 foot waves at Sunset Beach, was Billy Kemper's barrel in the ninth heat of the day. Already holding down first position in the heat, Kemper put the result out of question with a 10 point ride, unanimously awarded by all five judges. After the heat, Kemper flew straight to Maui for tomorrow's Jaws Challenge.

“A lot of people are probably tripping out on what we have ahead of us, but for me this is exactly what I’ve been working for so I’m so excited," said Kemper. "This is what it’s all about, I’m very excited.”

You gotta love this ride...he doesn't care to claim the barrel...
The wave then kicks to gift him a flukey rad snap & still no claim...
Tops it off with a soul arch ...surely a fist punch or double open arm salute...Nope!
Instead the local checks his watch! [10]
Never looked remotely interested or comfortable but absolutely nails it...Did that just happen?

Reckon he would be in for a shot at the Alliance No Claim bonus if it included Sunset....

Which for me is quite clever marketing and a pretty cool concept - love the no claim claim

I don't mind a claim, particularly in comp surfing which is all about impressing the onlooker. Billy did his looks to the beach. He claimed it. Good on him.

maddogmorley surely I thought you were having a laugh. Stupid me checked link! Wow!
I must agree that Pipe is the perfect venue for the No Claim promo.
Just hang loose & go Hawaiian style with the flow bro!
Well overdue ...Love it already.

Later Billy said the Hawaiian camp had mellowed out to own the moment. All makes sense!

Amazing contest! Yes Billy killed it but later on the paddle boys got trashed as Jaws showed its teeth. The tow in guys were unbelievable! You can see the advantage that speed down the line gives them when towing in. Can't wait for t'days carnage!
