If you cast your mind back a few months, back to June at J'Bay, when the women were competing for the very first time at Supertubes, you may recall that many of them struggled to get a flow going.

Arcs cut short, bung turns, bad decisions.

Yet Steph Gilmore, who was raised on pointbreaks and has done much beautiful surfing on single fins - think Kidman's Spirit of Akasha - had no such problems.

This six-minute clip shot by Morgan Maassen shows Steph at J'Bay - the comp she won, by the way - plus a few other South African pointbreaks, all set to a dreamy tune by Colleen, 'Captain of None'.

Those double pump bottom turns were shitting me to tears.

I love watching Miss Gilmore surf. More than I enjoy watching the vast majority of male pros surf. Such an amazing style . Usually impeccable on a right point.

But lacking flow there.

Would it be the board making her double pump ?
It seems on the smaller ones she doesn't need to.

She surf's a whole lot better than me and a lot of crew around here that's for sure.

She’s 6 times world champ. She’d surf better than 99.99 percent of the planet.

I'll need to see her surf heaving blax on a twinny to be convinced I'm afraid.
