Tahiti: Slater out again, Wright in again
OK, let's cut and paste this story from the last competition, and the one before that, and the one before that. You know the one...
The WSL has announced that Kelly Slater has pulled out of the Tahiti Pro and will be replaced by Mikey Wright.
Wright, who's been gifted five wildcards from six events, has captilised on his good fortune placing no lower than Round 4 and making the Semi-Finals twice. He sits in ninth place going into this event.
Not since Tom Curren in 1991 has a surfer outside the top tier made such an impression on the tour. Curren, however, was forced to surf through the trials events to secure his entry into the main events.
In this year's Teahupoo Trials, Mateia Hiquily and Tikanui Smith came first and second and will surf in the main event. Third place went to Bruno Santos, a previous Trials and main event winner.
Kelly Slater now has a month to get his foot better before his pet event, The Surf Ranch Pro.

Mikey ,Owen and family stayed next door to me in Kalbarri a few months ago, top blokes, got a few signatures, photos and another mate here score one of Mikeys boards for free . wish we had have hung out more but they were surfing all the time or going to see the sights.
Feel privileged they were right next door, Mikeys a top bloke we had to ask him to stick his finger up in a photo.
we followed them to the surf s few times and got some footage if you're keen on seeing the footage let me know.

Would like to see the footage I spose but the wise thing to do would be to just keep it to yourself. Maybe show a couple of mates, save It to look back on when you’re an old bugger, show the grandkids.
What gets me is he is still talking about the 2019 tour as if it is some sort of birth right, like he can take as much time off as he wants, surf when it suits him (Fiji, Lemoore) and then rock up next year and take the piss again. So over Slater. GOAT or not just seems more like a complete tosser struggling with the fact the world can move on without him.
